It was a bit obvious towards the end where the edit occured, but fairplay to them on keeping the secret. ITV don't even manage that on their closed soap sets nowadays.
An entertaining hour though (dragged out to 90 minutes) though do wonder if once we've seen the other singers tomorrow whether we just want to see the reveals rather than how each masked singer progresses? It felt really fresh though when they followed it up with an audition VT complete with nans on The Voice.
Queen Bee - Charlotte Church?
Hedgehog - Jason Manford (100%)
Unicorn - John Barrowman
The duck really should have gone tonight - easily the worst singer. The Butterfly should have won their head to head, never mind the bottom three vote.
I think the Duck might be Ken's guess afterall. Through if it's someone from Love Island rather than an athlete (St Paul's being seen might make Paula Radcliffe too obvious) then it was for the best they stayed for the mainstream audience wouldn't know who they are.
Queen Bee walked past a church in her VT which is a further clue - or misdirection.
It's hardly an X Factor replacement is it. Slate XF all you like, but it was a huge show. This is hardly ground breaking, it's not even warm and cuddly Stars in their Eyes style, I predict ratings of 2-3 million.
Ratings better than The X Factor does now then. It dominated trends on Twitter but that often isn't a great indicator of ratings. I think low 3m's, beaten by The Greatest Dancer. Does deserve a little bit more though.
That would be masively disappointing given the price tag and promotion.C4 went to over £500k per hour bidding for it.
Ironically E4 had the rights to it well before it hit America but pulled out due to the production costs.
Yes I think it was on the ticket applications that only a select audience would see the reveals. I assume only the production staff?
From BBC News:
Quote:
It's difficult to recall a studio audience so frustrated by a TV show recording.
Not because those present at a September taping of The Masked Singer didn't enjoy the show. Far from it - most cheered, laughed and evidently thought it was great entertainment.
But the audience (which BBC News was a part of) sat through several hours of recording and reshoots, only to be told just before the end that they all had to leave as producers filmed the crucial moment where the evicted celebrity was unmasked.
Only a select few members of the public were allowed to stay.
In an age of social media spoilers, keeping the studio audience in the dark is one of several measures ITV has taken to keep the identities of its masked celebrities under wraps.
Audience members had to sign NDAs (non-disclosure agreements) on their way into the taping, which took place at a remote airfield away from the press and public.
But the efforts to avoid word getting out could be worth it for the viewing figures ITV will be hoping it brings in.
Well, that's different from the original South Korean version where each revelation is filmed in front of full studio audiences.
In an interesting contrast, the German version had all competitions, including the revelations, broadcast live.
I thought it was a decent start last night, it’s a good format. Wasn’t sure on the choice of host/judges, but it worked. I think a few of the unmaskings need to be “wow factor” celebs though to ensure this isn’t seen as trashy.
With regards to Saturday Night Takeaway, I have heard it will be produced from Television Centre, the original home of the BBC - that will look strange if they use TC1, given the show uses the outside of their studio building a lot, as they did with Studio 1 at London Studios. Also, it would make it harder for a show on a Friday night such as The Last Leg to continue using TC1 live, as am sure SNT needs to have their set up and ready on Fridays. Just a side thought.
