That's never happened on any other version this early - usually only happens in the semi-final. Look at the US version. Double elimination on the penultimate episode, otherwise one gone each week. Started with 12 contestants like our version, and had three in the final. So if we have one less episode than them, we only need two double eliminations. Week 5, 8 singers, week 6, 7 singers, week 7, 5 singers, week 8, 3 singers.

Doesn't need to spoiler them when his parents won't know who they are anyway.

Masked singer doing well and established enough in the ratings that any names some/ many viewers don’t know being revealed won't damage the ratings -
I am sure everyone agrees the feeling is different when the un-masked celebrity if its someone you like/someone you know compared to someone you don't like or someone you don't really know/someone you never heard of.
It was never going to damage the ratings, only you and your parents ever cared about that.
If someone who most of the audience went who was the first reveal it might well have. But once you hooked it doesn't.
It is also helps that for Alan Johnson and Teddy Sherringham their occupation was so obvious people knew that if they knew their politics or football they would knew the person if they didn't they might not.
ITV clearly thinks familiarity helps the ratings otherwise they wouldn't have had the first trailer full of the most ott big names being suggested
