I'm still unsure about the concept of this having seen the American version, but thinking about this it probably doesn't really matter if this doesn't do as well for ITV as presumably they're filming it back to back with the Masked Singer so will save a fortune on a set build, they know that the show can be made during Covid as they've done it already with Singer, and it's helpfully filling a gap in the schedule later in the year. It's a much safer bet than having to go for an entirely new format.

I'd argue BGT The Champions and The Voice Kids have had no impact on the original shows so I can't see people being put off watching the Masked Singer if it doesn't do as well.

I'd be surprised if they film Masked Dancer and Masked Singer back to back as I assume The Wheel will be filming there from May or June.

Agree that it's a sensible move. They know they've got a gap later in the year and this can be turned around reasonably quickly and fill it. If it doesn't do well then BGT comes back next year anyway, and if it does then they've got another hit show on their schedule for 2022. Agree BGT Champions and Voice Kids haven't caused any issues for those shows (wonder if the former will ever return?) and if it's airing in the Spring then that's a considerable distance before the new series of The Masked Singer comes along in January anyway.

Don't think the plan is to film back to back though. Doesn't Singer normally film in September? Dancer will be a lot sooner than that with it airing in the Spring. Assume they'll use mostly the same set though.

Rita's currently in Australia for The Voice Australia so unless she's being replaced then it's probably sticking to its usual filming pattern.

Oh maybe you're right then. Still dusting off the regular set from storage is a big saving on a complete new one! Very Happy

The show is being stripped across a single week according to TV Zone. Think it needs to be 7.30 rather than 8.30 IMO to maximise it's potential.

7.30 would make sense, allows Corrie to have its usual big week with double bills at 9pm on the Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and something else on the Tuesday and Thursday.

Other option could be 8pm, with Corrie at 7.30pm all week. Don’t think they’d be too bothered about going against EastEnders, the soaps clash often enough these days.

Would mean finding something for 9.30pm though.

If they go for the May half term week there are England games on the Wednesday and Friday so if they did air it 7.30-9pm then Corrie can fill the three weeknight 9pm hours, and The Masked Dancer could begin the Saturday before and end the Sunday after, interupted twice for football.

If they go for an earlier football free week they could still air Corrie across the week at 9pm considering the numerous football pre-emptions that will occur in the weeks later.

Don't think this will do as well as Singer, which incidentally I can't see being as popular third time round. It was the ideal show to cheer people up and take their minds off everything but that situation will be better (here's hoping) the next time it airs.

As for the influence of spin-offs, BGT was on the slide before the Champions series. Similarly, The Voice although it rates decent is losing viewers and looks to be on its way out.

Starstruck is limited as to what it can achieve long term because of its format so ITV may well have to find another singing show sooner than expected if they want to continue in that vein.
