Isn't that what we have now!?

Come on, TV is supposed to represent true life, and you can't do that by trying to get rid of violence and all other 'nasty' things. It's now a part of life, if there was a true problem - the regulators would of stepped in long ago!

It shouldn't be really, we have enough problems in real life, without having to watch it on TV, as well, the television should be a escape from the real world eg comedies, entertainment, fantasy!

How can you smile at a time like this? Sad

It really is terrible news, I just read the article on a news site, just before you posted this topic Sad

No disrespect to Mary Whitehouse or anything, dunno why I put that in really(!)

I kinda recognised her when I saw a picture of her on BBC News @ Ten lastnight.

As Jase has already pointed out, a load of outdated religious dross is far more damaging than anything any of the broadcasters churn out©

I hardly think this is 'terrible' news, I'm sure the vast majority of people who actually knew who she was will be overjoyed to hear that no longer will they have to put up with her idealistic and frankly stupid views©

We don't have 5 channels of swearing and violence© The old bag just wanted us to so that she could say 'Told you so'©

She was increadibly insulting to anyone who ever watched TV© She was essentially suggesting that we're all stupid enough to believe everything we see and hear©

Marcus's comparison to the Taliban is justified in my book© She did have views she wanted to inflict on everyone, if she'd have got her way her lasting legacy would have been that we'd all be innocent and naive individuals unable to think for ourselves and understand that there is such as thing as 'bad', just because she was too stupid to recognise it herself©

PS: Sorry if this message comes out looking a bit odd© I'm using Netscape 6©2, which I'm hoping have overcome the problems of previous versions that wouldn't post properly©

Mary Whitehouse wanted to put TV back 100 years. I know you are not supposed to speak ill of the dead but she was an interfering old woman who should've kept her mouth shut instead of going on her 'moral crusades'.

All I can say is thank God the BBC banned her from the building in the 70s or we wouldn't have got some great programmes!

If she hadn't have been so strict on it, TV would be a whole lot worse than it is now, but it is fortunate that she didn't achieve all her goals.

Remember that shows with the world 'sh*t' in them could have been shown at 6:00 in the sixties! It was Mary Whitehouse who was responsible for the creation of the watershed!

...and ironically, it's the watershed which has led to more swearing on TV, not less. Silly cow.

Ah, that's what it is. I just thought you were going on a manic copyrighting spree, just in case any of us ever wanted to steal your words.

She said that television between the hours of 6 and 8 pm was for family viewing, and I believe she was right.

But, she did also say that the word 'bloody' was something that was only said by men who worked in the docks! I believe that her being there was good for TV, but most of her views were ******** !

I won't say anything bad about the dead, I never knew about this woman untill some one brought up her death on this thread. Nothing really bothers me on tv these days, all channels follow the watershed, the first thing that **** me up the other nite was that GHOST STORIES program the other nite on ITV1, I was all alone in the house, I kept flicking it on and off cos those things intrest me even if they sometimes give me the creeps!

At the end of the day, what she did with all the campaigning was good for Puritans. What she didn't seem to realise was that people could switch off or change channels if they didn't agree with the morals of a particular programme.

The same can be said today. The amount of complaints the Beeb get in their Duty Log about content which people object to is frightening to see some days.

It's scary to think that people will watch a whole programme despite it's content, then complain about it!

Ding Dong the witch is dead!

Ms Whitehouse was nothing but an out of touch, homophobic old cow with a huge chip on her shoulder simply because she wasn't getting enough. LOL

Very Happy
