Just caught a repeat of this dismal show on ITV2 from last weekend.

Was amazed to see the second couple on there were The Nevilles, Daphne and Malcolm,

Those of us of a certain age, will remember Daphne as an announcer on Border TV in the 80's when they brought the announcers in vision - was great to see her, always wondered what happened to her - married 53 years, she looked great. Still has the otters (she was passionate about them in her Border days!)

Sort of hijacking your thread, but there is a kind of relevance:

Earlier this afternoon, I spotted former Tyne Tees announcer Kathy Secker being interviewed on the lunchtime edition of BBC Look North NE/C about how charities in the North East are coping in the present economic climate. IIRC she was billed on the lower-third as the chair of a NE-based respite care home.

I remember Daphne well...and, according to the above link, so will Grampian viewers. I also remember her in Crossroads....but she's had a wide acting career.

Wasn't Daphne the announcer who mis-pronounced Cockburnspath during a late Border News bulletin?

EDIT: For those not in the know, the village of Cockburnspath, south of Dunbar and just inside Berwickshire, is pronounced as 'Coburnspath', with the 'ck' silent. However, during one Border News bulletin Cockburnspath was pronounced as it is written, without the silent 'ck'.

In any case the irony was lost on the villagers, as the Lammermuir Hills prevent Border TV's signals from reaching Cockburnspath and consequently the locals get STV's Edinburgh service from Craigkelly instead!

Yep she did - remember that one.

She was one of the first batch of Border announcers I remember in vision
