I guess that isn't really a surprise but it is tragically sad. I take it Newsround have completely avoided the story?

what good would it do avoiding the story?

Wasn't suggesting any good would come of it. At the time I posted that though there was nothing on the Newsround website that I could see, including anything about his disappearance so I thought that they were maybe avoiding it, which would be unusual I will admit.

As is typical with obits, you only generally get to hear the rose-tinted affair. However I remember Speight as being a true pro, a charming chap and just a really likeable fellow. The few occasions I got to work with him could be described as nothing short of a pleasure - and there's very few people in this industry you can say that about.

Not sure how star-lit his future could have been - his manner suited kids' TV perfectly, but it's hard to imagine his going mainstream into adult telly. Still .. a tragic loss anyway.

The media weren't reporting him like that after he was questioned over his girlfriend's death. I hope they're proud.

I caught Newsround this morning before I went to work and it was the top story, but it was a very short and mentioned as sad news.

It would be nice for CBBC to do a tribute to him, he's been on TV that long he's been in many a childhood.

I wonder perhaps if Mark had heard what the children are now saying about him and what effect he had on them, he might have thought twice about taking his life. Maybe not, but there's always a chance.

Just a brief message to say I've moved these posts into a separate topic. Whilst 'obit/death threads' can be seen as tedious at times by some I think based on the ongoing news coverage this warrants its own thread. It allows the CBBC thread to focus on general discussion.

...I think it was initially removed on suspicion of being the typical 'train' photo which periodically crops up on these forums.

Such sad news, and such a shame that a talented bloke has died so young. Sad

Remembered seeing him first off on Scratchy & Co which was a totally bizzare kids programme and of course showcasing his artistic talents on SMart

May he Rest In Peace
