Does anyone else find the editing annoying? (February 2013)

I caught the latest episode about the geological map of the UK and was mightly disappointed.
Not the content which I found fascinating but the editing made me want to kick the screen in.
I seriously don't understand why using pop video editing in a geology/geography programme is used.
We had slow-mos, degraded pics and when chipping away at a fossil, a flash and monochrome effect.
I'm sorry but I gave up after about 15 mins.
I'm all for different styles - which I use in the business - but this was like student tv or someone inexperienced let loose on a major series.
If you're not sure what I'm on about about go to about 8 mins in here:

I have to say your right. That stylistic effect really jars with the programme content and tone. It's almost reminiscent of the "predator" view from the film with the same name.

Let them know: http://www.bbc.co.uk/tv/features/pov/aps/form.shtml

It's almost like it's a parody of a documentary series that has really bad editing.

I didn't think it was too bad until I saw the above effect at 9:46 - I actually let out a laugh - it's like something out of a Crimewatch reconstruction!

And to think the over-stylised grating of some cheese, complete with 'woosh' was going to be my weekend highlight.

hahahahaha, that is amazingly preposterous. Can we devote this whole thread to horrible editing? yes please.

Oh, it's all part of the general dumbing down, and treating us all as zero attention span zombies.

The whole of Dan Snow's Locomotion series was like that, full of irritating, and pointless (and in some cases expensively produced) visual metaphors. Totally ruined it, I found it so distracting, I wasn't actually listening to the perfectly sound and interesting commentary.

Then there's the Genius of Invention series, where the three presenters bounce around while they talk.
A friend of mine described the presentation as being like Blue Peter. Actually, that's being unfair to Blue Peter,
it looks like a sketch show parody of Blue Peter instead.

I think only The Sky At Night now remains as a science/technology programme with out silly gimmicks, or patronising presentation, I'm sure its days are numbered Crying or Very sad

The woosh, then the matrix 360 effect. Wow[!]

Quite a compliment, thank you. It's still around for another series yet, albeit sadly without Patrick.

I said the same about the 'Genious of Invention' to Mrs bluecortina - Blue Peter for adults. For some reason I kept thinking the next bit will be illustrated in the same way that Michael Bentine used invisible fleas on a sand pit. Bizzare I know!

Is Map Man's excuse perhaps that it's from 2004?

Off-topic, but hear hear. Caught a bit of it the other night with the "new" team and found it just as engaging as ever.
