I know they have graced our TV screens for a while but...

Does anyone else like the M&S simply food adverts - you know, the ones with drizzling, splattering, sumptuously smattering voice overs and slow motion pictures of various foods being seductively prepared.

And has anyone noticed how they don;t actually make any sense!
They spend most of the advert describing food with a ridiculous number of adjectives making it look like the most delicious food ever, and then they end with the slogan 'M&S simply food' when it is quite clearly not simple and has been filmed for hours in totally unrealistic situations in order to make it loof complicated.

I don't remember any of the M&S adverts ever ending with Simply Food.

Anyway, the stores are called Simply Food because they don't sell clothing, just food.

I've never seen any of those adverts with "Simply Food" on. Perhaps there's a regional variation on ITV & C4, because as far as I know, there's only one branch of Simply Food in the North East region.

I ate a sandwich from a Simply Food.
It was at a service station.
It was nice.

The adverts are very well done. They emphasis the quality and steer clear of the fact that M&S food is expensive.

I usually treat myself to M&S food at Xmas, I suspect I am not the only one. Very Happy

The food doesn't look 'complicated' or complex for that matter. Nothing could be futher from the truth there. The Iceland adverts with a camera sweeping over plates and plates of food laid out are unrealisitic, but the M&S ones focus on a few products and emphasize how 'special' the food is.

Ending with 'It's not just food, it's M&S food.' Again, saying it's special, not simple.

As for the stores, you have:
- out-of-town stores (sell general merchandise, food and have café - often very big 'flagship' stores)
- city/town centre and regional stores (sell general merchandise, food and have café)
- Neighbourhood food stores (larger format food dominated stores with a small range of general merchandise and a café) all located on out of town retail parks and branded 'Marks & Spencer'.
- Simply Food standard stores (small format food only stores located in convenience areas like small retail parks, urban/suburban inner city areas), branded 'Marks & Spencer Simply Food' (with higher prices on many products compared to the other stores),
- Simply Food compact stores (compact food only stores located in railways stations/petrol stations), branded 'Marks & Spencer Simply Food' (with higher prices on many products compared to the other stores & run by a non-M&S company as a franchise).

and yes, I used to work for the company.

The out of town M&S food store where my parents live is called ''Simply Food'', not ''Marks and Spencer''. It's a big, almost supermarket-sized one.

AFAIK, Simply Food is a joint venture with another company; it's not just M&S.

Not just Simply Food... this is M&S Simply Food.

Perhaps?

Although the adverts are a little over the top, I think they work well for the brand.

However I think they have missed a trick with the tagline "This is not just food, this is M&S food"; if they had used the tagline "This is not just food, this is M&S", not only would it be less of a mouthful, it would advertise the whole brand rather than just food.

I do see you point. My mouth waters every time the advert starts!

And as for Iceland... when will that woman who used to be married to Bryan Mcfadden hurry up and fade into obscurity!

If anything, she puts me off shopping at Iceland.
