What a fantastic piece of public service television. Brilliantly directed and produced. A masterpeice is a cross-city live broadcast. WELL DONE City of Manchester and WELL DONE the BBC Very Happy

It could only happen in England's 2nd City - MANCHESTER.

Music chosen was spot on, they way the bible story was told was spot on (and for everyone of any religion to understand). MOst of all Keith Allen was superb as the narrator.

I agree it was excellent, but I think any city could have hosted it!

It was very good, but not as good as Jesus Christ Superstar IMO.

I personally loved it. The choice of music and the setting, with the orchestral composition of the music chosen worked to it's advantage, and everything seemed to goto plan. The only thing I did note was that a lot of detail was left out, but I guess that was the time restraints. Either way, a fantastic piece of television! I hope that there's a DVD available, or some way of watching it again (apart from the 11pm repeat). Well done BBC!

Ah, but could any city have provided such a wide range of well-known songs that fitted in with the storly so well? Personally I doubt it, but if anyone can prove me wrong, please feel free (Yes yes, I'm biased cause I live here Wink).

Laughing As someone from Newcastle, I'm sure Dire Straits, Sting and ermm.... PJ and Duncan could fit the bill. Wink

Manchester is concentrated enough, is a very versatile city and does this sort of live event magnificently - e.g. Commonwealth Games, Champions League Final, United ( Mad ) doing the triple, etc.....

Music was fantastic, but as already stated cities such as Liverpool and Newcastle also have an ecletic mix of music - but they don't have the sites or the versatility.

I am NOT from Manchester but I DO come from the North West. Den Haag is my present home!!!!

If this event was meant to only feature music by Manchester artists, why was "Angels" by Robbie Williams included?
Maybe the lyrics of that song are appropriate, but the fact is the RW isn't from Manchester, he's from Stoke On Trent!

Robbie Williams was part of the Manchester Boy Band - Take That. Most people do consider Stoke on Trent to be close to Manchester (I know the arguments - so is Liverpool, Preston, Lancaster etc.....).

But the emphasis, I think, here is that as Take That was big many, associate Robbie Willaims as from Manchester. Same goes for James whose music was also used.

Is that some sort of a joke? Liverpool and Newcastle would have much better sites! The bridges over the tyne in Newcastle or the waterfront areas around the 3 graces in Liverpool would have been perfect.

Just a pity they couldn't blur out alot of the store names (a bit of free and blatant advertising!!!! Laughing Laughing Laughing ) e.g. Harvey Nics, Selfridges, Muji Home Stores, Jigsaw, NEXT, The Triangle Shopping Centre, the new-look Arndale Shopping Centre, PIzza Express, Odeon, The Printworks entertainment centre etc....
