I like to think it's a utterly cynical choice on the part of the public, done purely to **** off Europe because we know we can't win. The 'song' is so excruciating and the performance so awkward to watch the whole thing should be more embarrasing for the audience to endure than for us to be ashamed of.

I'm wrong, of course Laughing

I really don't believe the public thought about it that deeply.

Well, I'm going to admit now that I voted for Daz, and my reasoning was thus...

First off, it was Saturday evening and I'd had a bit to drink. All the other acts were completely bland and forgettable, so I figured we're clearly not going to win. I therefore went for the the 'ludicrous' option, on the basis that after all, this is Eurovision which is inherently a celebration of the ludicrous.

I think it's great to be honest, a real two-fingers up at Europe. Last year we had a decent, upbeat, well produced song and it got us nowhere so why not throw in the towel this year and go for something ridiculous?

I did love Jonathan Ross' comments on Saturday, wonder if his going for Terry's commentary job when the old guy steps down?

I voted for City Chix, with the two River City actresses. Thought it was a great song, too. It seems everyone in Scotland agreed; but I did enjoy Daz's amusing romp.

Well, Jonathan Ross seems the obvious person to take over from Terry in years to come. Either him, or Rob Brydon. Laughing Then the whole thing really would be a joke.

So you don't think it was just Scotland voting for a Scottish act, as invariably seems to happen in such votes?

There can be little doubt I have a vested interest, both as Scot and a fan of RC. However, had the song been a pile of mince I wouldn't have voted. Did you not think it was a good song?

It's difficult enough for the UK to get votes in this competition, but a killer song would at least make the handful of marks we receive seem as unjust as it is.

As entertaining as I found Daz's song, there isn't much to it. Its just a looped sample track with rapping over it.

But then, I never have understood the popularity of rap as a music form.

Me neither. I was heartened that Northern Ireland voted the bloke from Blue top. Not because it's fantastic, but it is, IMHO better than the (c)rap that won. It's like a p!ss take from the 1980s.

I am a Eurovision fan but have been disappointed with entries and results in recent years. It used to have established well known artists, Cliff Richard, Sandie Shaw, and so forth. Times move on. But for the past ten years or so it has become more kitch, - an entertainment, a laugh, and not serious, The voting is ludicrous as Greece votes for Turkey and so forth, and the new East Europeans all love each other. What is popular music for one is not for another.

I was diappointed with the offerings this year, mainly as I had never heard of them, bare Antony Costa. He was going to get my vote until I heard Daz. When I first saw him, I thought - who is this, another non-entity - but after I actually heard the song, I changed my mind. This bloke may just have a chance, as the song is so kitch and an oddity. Sorry to learn on TV Forum that the backing singers were miming. Whether or not the UK wins or not, I think song, might get more votes than we have in recent years.Either that or it will bomb completely! Smile

I reckon it'll sink without trace. Rap of any description generally has got a pretty poor reception in the past.

Going back to the programme itself, I only saw the very end of it but noticed that nations and Regions got credited - were there results from around the country again? Did anyone capture any screengrabs of this?

Sorry to correct you but, it's Greece and Cyprus that have the traditional 12 point love-in.
You are right about the Eastern Europeans voting for each other though - and it's this that the EBU need to stop, as it's this bit that is the 'grim reaper' for the whole competition.

Indeed. Greece and Turkey still hate each other over the whole Cyprus issue, and invariably give each other 'nul points'.
