I didn't realise Daz Sampson was responsible for the songs by United Nations and other remixes. Could seem too mainstream as a choice for Eurovision. I'd say, this year, the public have voted on stage furniture rather than the actual song. Last year, it was thought that taiko drums (on Javine's song) may influence our chances.

I don't think its entirely true that the BBC don't have much input with Eurovision. Scoreboard graphics used to be provided by BBC Resources (is that still the setup?) and BBC Three tend to milk precedings every year. However, as has been said, the method of choosing a singer has changed.

On another note, is Terry Wogan losing it? (I say that in the nicest way possible - *looks round in a Harry Hill style* I like Terry.) Laughing

I didn't watch it, The fact it was advertised as being with "Agent Kaplinsky" was enough of a turn off.

I often wonder what the point is in Eurovision nowadays... you only ever hear the songs on the night, and then that's it - they never really make it into the charts or get any airplay on radio as far as I can remember...

I'd have to agree with you on that considering that they hit the jackpot previously. Wasn't that the time when Wogan said he would quit it if we didn't win it?

So what did people think of this? I have to admit I didn't see all of it so I don't know what the other songs were like.

Daz's song seems ok - reminds me of the Black Eyed Peas, Where is the Love. Seemed a bit odd having the schoolchildren there. It was a bit like a builder had walked into a girls classroom. Confused

Anyway, its another style -will be interesting to see if RnB has the same effect in the rest of Europe.

Every time a rap song has been entered into Eurovision by any country it has bombed. I don't think this year will be any different.

I like to think it's a utterly cynical choice on the part of the public, done purely to piss off Europe because we know we can't win. The 'song' is so excruciating and the performance so awkward to watch the whole thing should be more embarrasing for the audience to endure than for us to be ashamed of.

I'm wrong, of course Laughing

A slight problem though is due to Eurovision rules, the female 'dancers' will have to sing the female backing part (unlike today, where it was obviously mimed). Could be a bit tricky.

Today (Sunday) the Radio 2 news bulletin mentions ranged from "school choir" through to "school choir like backing".

So was it a school choir, making the live performance on the Song Contest proper a bit awkward or was it the dancers?

For me the problem remains that the BBC do not invest enough time and energy into the contest. Take SVT in Sweden, they spend all year building towards Eurovision, and always manage to get the country's biggest stars to perform in the Melodifestivalen. They always manage to produce 3/4 potential winners each year. My problem is that in recent years the BBC seem to pick singers first and then it is up to them to find a decent track. The idea that this is a song contest seems to have went out the window.

Actually I think there's some rule that disqualifies any top UK act to perform at Eurovision because we'd win all the time, hence why we get the bottom of the barrel of unknowns or celeb washups performing. Cool

There is no suc rule. The only rule concerning Eurovision is that an artist can not sing previously released material on the night. The reason big stars do not perform on Eurovision is because it is too tackey, and their careers are already big, so they have nothing to gain from Eurovision.

Well according to Daz' interview on BBCi the scholl choir consists of three kids voices being multitracked to give the impression of a choir.
