I have to say that 118 118 are pretty awful. The woman I spoke to last week had NO idea how to find the number for the Somerfield branch in Hinckley. She didn't even know how to spell Somerfield, only one of the top 6 supermarket chains in this country for God's sake! She couldn't even spell Leicestershire properly, and I ended up slamming the phone down and going to 192, who put the number over the moment I said "Somerfield in Hinckley please." Dissapointing really.
Off topic; but I don't know if BT are doing this to everyone but today we got a post it note pad posted through which had 118 500 - The new........... on each page, is this how much BT want to call our service, but the ironic thing is we have NTL!

I believe they are based in India- not really good for a UK Directory Enquiries serivce.

No, they are based in Cardiff. But they do have an overflow call centre in the Philippines
After having tried a lot of the new numbers, the only decent service seems to be the BT operated 118 500. It's the cheapest, most reliable and easiest to connect to, and coupled with BT's years of experience in directory inquiries behind it, seems the only logical choice really.
Within a year, I predict that the majority of these numbers will go out of service when people realise that most are basically shîte.

I can see this happening too, I saw a report on Sky News about this the other week and when Germany did the same thing a few years ago, they had 13 different services available to the consumer, now only a few years later there are only two. I can see 118 500/BT surviving and possibly 118 118, but thats it, most will be gone within a year. But it wouldn't suprise me if people are obviously still calling 192.
I know there's a gay directory enquiries. I can't remember the number though. I know NTL's is 118 878, Yellow pages is 118 247 I beleive Thomson (as in the commercial phone book, not the travel company) have one as well.
