From a news source at MediaUK:

Quote:
Fresh from their successful bid for FA Cup rights, terrestrial broadcaster ITV will announce Monday that they have signed a sponsorship deal with the soft drinks manufacturer Britvic.

Out of the many benefits of the arrangement, believed to be worth several million pounds over a 4 year period, various Saturday night programmes will have different Britvic branded sponsorship. Early indications apparently show that even some of ITV's best known strands will be enhanced with a name from the world of fizzy drinks.

On the subject of changing the names of programmes however, ITV chairman Michael Grade will apparently not be making any decisions until he has had opportunity to discuss the deal, and its probable benefits, with the programme production companies.

Losing ITV Play will have dented ITV's profit margin projections and this deal is a possible lifeline to help recover from that loss.

If it is I've been duped too...but think about it - ITV need money to pay for this football contract and to plug the hole left by the loss of ITV Play....so what better way than to let a massive public firm sponsor an entire evening's programming for four years?

If this isn't an Apil Fool...

ITV already has generic sponsors for certain programme strands (e.g. "Mystery Dramas" across all ITV channels) and even has time-of-year sponsors ("ITV Christmas Entertainment is sponsored by Rennie") etc etc.

So, a generic "Saturday Night" sponsor across all Saturday primetime programmes (ITV1 only, or all ITV channels?) dosen't seem particularly unfeasible.

However, the idea of the brand names being incorporated into the programme identities, rather than simply via tacked-on "adverts", as currently, doesn't seem right.

I can't really see, say, "The Pepsi X Factor" or "Vernon Kaye's 7Up Gameshow Marathon", or "Tango Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" (etc etc) really happening. Or, at least, I hope not. Far too American. Yuk.

Well it's past 12 now so I have to say - what do the first letters of the start of each paragraph spell out? (Including the dateline)?

Most April Fools jokes are...it's easier to dupe someone if the thing you're duping them with is believable.

That's an independent programme that is not a direct ITV commission...the Orange Playlist has turned up on eMap music channels too.

Thought this came from MediaUK? I don't have so much of a prolem if it was made up by a TVForumer.... I was more disappointed that MediaUk came up with something like that

It may not be a direct ITV commission but weren't ITV looking out for a direct commissioned music show to replace CD:UK which a product in the name of the show - until they couldn't find anyone!!!!!!!

THe only direct cross branded show I seem to remember on British TV was a mens magazine show on late on "Channel 5" a few years ago - was it GQ or something like that???
