Radio Two's shows aren't quite as spread out as they used to be. At one stage, when the Jamesons were doing late nights, the show was moved to Glasgow. After some time commuting each week from their home in West Sussex, they gave up the programme.

BTW, not all of Asian Network's programmes come from the midlands. The Sonia Deol show comes from TVC.

Isn't Radio 1 based in Broadcasting House, like Radio 2? If that is the case, then why can they broadcast from Radio 2 but not from Radio 1? Maybe it's just a problem affecting Radio 1.

No, Radio One comes from Youlding House, just round the corner...

Yes, James is correct, they're in different buildings.

A colleague at BH tells me there's been a power cut at Yalding House, so they've switched to an available studio, which happens to be one of Radio Two's.

There was a power failure, and guess what, the emergency generators failed to work. Yet another triumph for Trilium. Rolling Eyes

Steve Wright has his own studio? Shocked

Not exclusively, but that's usually the only "live" Radio2 show to come from that one. It's booked out by the Wright show from about 12pm on weekdays, to give them time to do all the prerecorded bits (most of the show then!!)

The Radio 1 webcam is still stuck on the image of the Newbeat (?) control desk/studio nearly an hour later. Is there still a power cut preventing the switching of the cameras?

Where does Newsbeat actually come from?

Alex lives on a canal barge and moves around a lot. Mo Dutta also presents on the Asian Network's breakfast which also comes from Birmingham. I think Janice lives in the North West and commutes down the M6 every night. Can't think what else on Radio 2 comes from Birmingham.

The Asian Network programming there comes from BBC WM's second studio (some of AN comes from Leicester, so not always hogging WM's space) - they both close down at night so I guess it's more convenient to use their studio space in Birmingham for those presenters.

Where do you get you're info?

Mo Dutta does not present the Asian Network's breakfast show, Gagan Grewal does.

And the AN is run completly from Leicester, not Birmingham. The only show that doesn't come from Leicester is Sonia Deol, which is from Television Centre.

No, Trilium are facilities management. Anything technical is Broadcast Engingeering/BBC Technology

If the kettle breaks or the ceiling leaks, you get Trilium to sort it out
If all the technical stuff goes Pete Tong they can't help you

How are they managing to playout all of the music and jingles from the Radio 2 studio? I would have thought that Radio 1 and Radio 2 would have been seperate Confused

They would have plans for such an eventuality, presumably there are copies of essential items such as jingles of the other station in each station. As for music, they would have just picked up a few CDs on their way out of the building (as it's not a fire or anything nasty they only need a few at first then go back and pick up more later).

What happened to 1Xtra?

NO. Trilium are responsible for the supply of power to the building. This is what failed at Broadcasting House and this is what failed at TVC last week. Trilimum were responsible in both cases.

However good Broadcast Engineering are, they can't make machines work without power

I'd have thought it would be more likely that jingles and music are on a central server. Wouldn't it be the case that Sara Cox, for example, would "log in" and have access to the Radio 1 bits and pieces even if using a Radio 2 studio? I'd have thought it would be highly unlikely they "grab a few CDs" - music is WAV, and this would surely be available wherever the computer is that is accessing the music?

I don't know where Scott Mills was broadcasting from tho!!!!? It sounded like he was in a broom cupboard the quality was hopeless.

Probably the best DJ it could happen too tho, he made it really funny and you can just imagine him running between Yalding House and BH with his minidisks muttering, "RRRRRUbbbish!" Laughing

Yes, I'm a big fan of Scotts. He's the sort of guy I'd like to meet down the pub too.
