Major Problems at Radio 1

Anyone know what happened on Radio 1 at around 14.10 today?

Lost all sound, then emergency DAT kicked in, and 20 minutes later Scott Mills came back on air sounding very dodgy and saying Radio 1 had 'blown up' and he'd had to run down the road to another studio. He said he was now in 'Radio Urdu' or somthing like that!

Sara Cox is now in Radio 2 (you can see it on the webcam).

I think you'l probably find that it's a few posters - as their is no webcam for Radio 2 on the Radio Website.. so they've probably won't have one.

From that webcam shot, it DOES look like a Radio 2 studio, why would they decorate the Radio 1 studio with Radio 2 decor?

It's definitely a Radio 2 studio! They've said that on air.

Do we have anyone from the BBC who could tell us what's happened to the Radio 1 building!



Yes there is a webcam for Radio 2, just that Steve Wright doesn't have it on.

Isn't Radio 1 based in Broadcasting House, like Radio 2? If that is the case, then why can they broadcast from Radio 2 but not from Radio 1? Maybe it's just a problem affecting Radio 1.

Yes, James is correct, they're in different buildings.

A colleague at BH tells me there's been a power cut at Yalding House, so they've switched to an available studio, which happens to be one of Radio Two's.

Radio 2 has 4 studios in regular use. The one in the picture of Sara Cox is the one Sarah Kennedy, Ken Bruce and Richard Allinson (late show) normally come from. Terry Wogan, Jeremy Vine and Drivetime come from the twin one across the corridor. Another one does Steve Wright, and the 4th does News. Recordings and shows for other stations go on during the spare time in each studio.

Lol this sounds like my house the day. We had a power cut about 1/2ish. It's taken me since then to get my PC and server fired up and working. lol.....
