Right after posting the link earlier it suddenly dawned on me I actually have the original Movie Premiere airing of Groundhog Day from October 1996 on a Betamax tape I ended up with. I've checked and despite what the article said was planned in August, it certainly doesn't look the Castlemaine batch actually aired during this film (that's in the Anglia region) -
although there is what was presumably a specially put together Ford Escort advert in one break, which repeats a sequence over and over again!
My memory of the
Groundhog Day
airing here in HTV land tallies exactly with this. I first checked out this topic before the above post was made, and the 'repeating' Ford Escort campaign during the film was something I immediately thought of. I knew it was a car ad, but wasn't sure which brand - thanks for confirming. ISTR it dominated the break.
The apparent Castlemaine campaign planned for the film is not something I recall seeing here. Though that doesn't necessarily mean it didn't exist.
Much more recent this one. Virgin Media ran a campaign a couple of years ago where a normal advert would play, then buffer mid way through. I think the adverts that actually buffered were for Yeo Valley and Citroën. Anyone remember? About 2010-2012

"ONdigital: more choice through your aerial. Call 0808 100 0101 or pop down to your local electrical retailer now.".
Haven't heard anything from that campaign for years now ....
That was a great telephone number for on digital to have .
The significance would go over the heads of most people, but a huge smile on the faces of TV tech geeks..

I've got this clock in our conservatory, most friends have glazed over when I've explained what it is, and how you work out the time on it !
The Alliance building society had their famous adverts in the 1980s, with funky guitar and synth music, and words scrolling up. No voiceovers, nothing else. The tagline was "Alliance building society" - "Not all building societies are the same"
The campaign stopped suddenly, but for a good reason. The Alliance merged with the Leicester, to form the Alliance and Leicester, and was absorbed into what is now Santander UK.
