Main news stories before the USA atacks

Just over 2 weeks have passed since the terrorist attacks in the USA now, and since then we have all been kept up-to-date with the latest in New York and Washington.

This story seems to be the main news story at the moment. But what were the main news stories before America was attacked?

I think it might have been the story about the children being frightened on their way to school in Northern Ireland.

Blair's massive confrontation with the TUC. He was due to give a very important speech 10 minutes after the 1st plane hit.

Foot & Mouth perhaps. More moaning farmers getting on peoples nerves. Oh perhaps still riding on bit of a high after the England Germany game.

I thought it was the little girls in Northern Ireland and asylum seekers trying to get in to the UK every night.
