It is truly excellently produced TV. They know reality and they know their audience. It’s largely made
by the same team as I’m a Celeb so it’s no surprise it’s so well made and so popular.
I don't doubt the show is a slick and well made production, especially if the production team from "I’m a Celeb..." are involved. That's one current reality show I can just about put up with. Thing is, it doesn't matter how well produced a show like Love Island is ... it doesn't stop it from being among the worst type of utter trash reality shows. I think the only current/recent reality show that's possibly worse than Love Island, is MTV's "Ex On The Beach". Don't get me started on the current state of MTV nowadays!
That said, my views stem from me being way out of the target age-range demographic. If I was still in my late teens or early 20's, I'd probably watch and enjoy it. When I was in my early 20's, I watched a lot of MTV, when it was still a decent music video channel.

The fact as a nearly 39 year old man who attempted to watch it and couldn't stand it, shows how tightly targeted this show is.
I wouldn't listen to Capital FM or Heart radio either as again, the format doesn't suit me either.

Last year I flagged it off so much without watching it that I thought it's only fair I give it a chance this year. It is certainly one of the most cringeworthy TV shows and is pretty s*** all around apart from being quite well produced but.... it's kind of enjoyable. I sort of hate myself for saying it but it's alright and makes me feel good about my life not being as hideous as the 'islanders'.

I’ve got the same people talking about it at work like it’s the best thing they’ve ever seen.

Not my thing either but I do recognise it is a well produced and well targeted product. Never mind not being able to watch four minutes of it - couldn't stomach four minutes of people talking about it at work today.

It's well polished trash basically.
The talent formats also do my head in, but again, they bring in revenue, even though they're never going to be the world's greatest shows.

Looking at the 9pm's over the next few weeks on main ITV, I think we could well be seeing ITV2 doing better than the main channel on quite a few occasions. Which is a slightly awkward but nice problem for ITV to have I suppose.

Another huge rating for last night; 2.8m average, coming second only to Our Girl on BBC1.
