Because they need to make it long enough to register on the ratings - BARB only do a head count for programmes longer than a certain time (10 or 15 mins IIRC)

There have been a number of occasions that the midweek lottery has been recorded and transmitted later. The results were on the NL website BEFORE transmission.

The Daily Play draw is now being shown live nightly at 9pm on Challenge TV, so it might have something to do with that.
