Lots of channels popping up on NTL

Is this a mistake? I knew the NTL basic channel pack was being revamped (mainly by the addition of radio stations) but yesterday afternoon all of the following appeared on my box:

The only one previously advertised as due to be added to the basic pack was Bloomberg. None of the advertised radio stations have appeared.

We never had any extra channels appear

We are in ther Ex-CWC area and I have two friends who have the basic pack and Sky Movies & Sports and they told me that they had the channels added last night as well. I think it is for people who only have 1 or 2 packs have been upgraded to the new family pack and people who have not called CS to change their packs, so they are likely to get the new channels tomorrow morning. People who currently have 5 packs will remain unaffected.

I got that, this morning I noticed that all the 'kids' channels we don't usually get had come on, so had channels like Living, CNN, Discovery Sci-Trek etc.

It was as if they were putting through the channels we didn't currently get (which were in the Family package), but not any of the 'new' channels which were advertised.

By 7pm though, the new channels had all gone - back to my previous package selection. And it's now 3am on the day which the Family pack is supposed to be active - and the channels still aren't there!

Edit: Has anyone noticed how 'ITV Sport Channel' and 'ITV Sport Select' are still on NTL, even though the programme guide says "This channel no longer broadcasting"? I would have thought they would have removed them!

Yes, there isn't even a caption up on ITV Sport, just a blank screen. When Shop! closed, NTL had the channel's closure announcement up for a couple of days, then put Front Row Previews on the channel for a couple of days after that before removing the channel from the line-up.

The extra channels have disapppeared (except UK Gold, which was on my earlier list by mistake - it appears to be FTV on NTL now, and has been for a few weeks) - none of the new radio stations have appeared though I have gained "Star", "Star News" and three BBCi World Cup channels (currently showing a still caption). Bloomberg, which was advertised as becoming part of the basic pack, disappeared with the rest of the extra channels and has not yet reappeared.

Currently recording the Local Channel - I'll be soooo sad if it disappears today...

There are five new channels on our (ex-CWC Manchester) service today. Star Plus and Star News, which I assume are on a freebie for a couple of days, and three new World Cup BBCi channels. 997 is for catching up on the England and Rep. of Ireland squads and matches, and 998 and 999 are for replays of big World Cup matches. All good stuff if you like football BTW, can anyone get a capture of the still caption being shown on those screens at the moment? Similar to the DTT one, it has the World Cup logo in the middle, with "Service not currently available" beneath it. Bottom left, the BBCi logo is showing, and bottom right, the BBC Sport logo. The background is the same as the DTT one, and it's the same on all three channels. No channel no. onscreen like DTT to distinguish them. They are available from 3pm to 6am from the 31st.

I didn't know it was dissappearing! Where is this announced, and why is it leaving the world?? It's not brilliant, but it's an extra channel in the mix and could be really good if a bit of effort was put in. I reckon that where there are small scale licenses, such as Channel M in Manchester, it should relay those instead of the stuff that's on there now. Some of Channel M's stuff is quite good and would make a change.

ntl: sent us a letter a while back saying that as we were "valued" customers of them and were loyal, (we have had digi cable with CWC, then ntl: since just after it launched), they were giving us MTV, Discovery and UK Gold free for a month. After that if we wanted them, we had to add the packs. I do want to see more Radio channels on there though

It might not disappear today, but it hasn't been advertised as part of any of the new packs so I'm extrapolating from the silence. I notice that the current "LL Extra" repeat appears to be compiled from two separate editions (notice how Lee is on the setee at the start yet it's Merewyne who introduces the Soul II Soul video). Actually, now I think of it, there's no adverts in the breaks either, just PIFs and NTL promotional stuff. Though the YCTV "Real Issues" programme has been made in the last couple of months so it's not all old stuff.

The new channels have appeared but we don't have them because mum wanter to wait and see if we got them rather than ring up and get moved over in advance

NTL Local Channel ceased transmission at 12 noon, Wednesday 29 May 2002. It will be missed by both its loyal viewers, especially the one typing this.

As of 3pm, the latest from Turner Towers is that Bloomberg and Home Shopping Europe, plus a whole heap of radio stations, have arrived as promised. Star and Star News are still there. The three BBCi World Cup channels 997, 998 and 999 have changed from the BBC's rather natty still to an inferior NTL caption.

I'm still waiting for the NTL Local Channel to disappear! We've got 100s of radio stations on eight hundred and sixty-odd though and some strange new home shopping channel!
