Didn't realise C4 were also repeating Lost on Sundays at around 6.30pm, getting about 1.5m viewers.

Unfortunately it seems C4 have listened to the complaints about the ads as there were some definate changes last night.

Usually C4 cuts to ads at the points the US cuts to ads, but last night they didn't.

Annoyingly though they'd cut to ads, then come back and they'd be just one mini-cliffhanger scene which faded to black before the scene continued!

Saved from the archives! Thanks Asa!

How many of us are still with this!

To be honest I wasn't as hooked as I thought I would be with the first few episodes, but in the last few weeks things really picked up and last nights C4 episode was outstanding.

SPOILER!!!!
However, the next episode on E4 was well below par, a real disapointment. That's the problem with the show - it varies from being unmissable one week to nothing more than average the next

It seems to have settled with around 3.5m viewers for C4 now, and though on the surface they've lost 2m viewers since the premiere, most of them can be accounted for with 1.3m watching last nights E4 First Look episode (beating C4 in the ratings!), and the viewers of the Sunday night repeats.

Unfortunatly as you've highlighted (or not as the case may be!) Lost is very pragmatic. I have to admit, after missing one episode I'm totally confused and now completly lost, if you'll forgive that one!

The Sunday catch-up has proved very good for yours truly, usually missing the train on Wed so a repeat is a good thing, there again of course there is always SCS Rolling Eyes

Was anything of significance found inside the girl's suitcase?

The whole episode seemed to revolve around this suitcase but nothing much was found inside apart from a model of an aeroplane(airplane?)

Did I miss something important (when I dropped off...)

I gave up on this show in response to learning that after 20-some weeks, the viewer is no closer to knowing what the hell is happening on this island, or why they continue to be stranded.

Typical American technique of stretching something good out as long as humanly possible. I don't think it should ever have got to two series - the whole thing should have been wrapped up in one. It is, after all, a *mystery* series, and to not resolve any of those mysteries by the end of the first season is just poor, if you ask me.

Ad breaks too close, says Ofcom

Channel 4 has been criticised for failing to allow enough time between commercial breaks in its US import Lost.
Media watchdog Ofcom upheld complaints from 23 viewers about the commercial break patterns in the hit show.

Ofcom said that although Channel 4 had not exceeded the maximum number of advertising minutes during the show, it had broken the rules by scheduling breaks too close together on a "significant" number of occasions.

The regulator said it acknowledged the need to schedule advertising at natural break points in the story.

But it said broadcasters were expected to limit themselves to an "occasional" breach of the rules, which state that there should be 20 minute separations between ad breaks.

In the August 31 episode alone, Ofcom pointed to one break separation of under 11 minutes, and another shorter than 13 minutes.

"We accept that this problem is more marked with imported drama which can sometimes be of short duration to allow for the frequency of advertising breaks taken in some other countries," Ofcom said in its ruling, published today.

"However, the country of origin of a series and the peculiarities of drama do not in themselves provide a valid reason for failing to comply with a key requirement of the scheduling rules on a regular basis across an entire series," the regulator added.

Personally I disagree with OFCOM on this. Their own rules state that with imported programmes, broadcasters should try and place ads at the natural break points - and I find it very annoying when C4 cut to ads then come back and play one scene before it fades to black before picking up the cliffhanger.

The real issue is the C4 are trying to broadcast a 42 minute programme in a 1hr 5 minute slot. US shows lend themselfs to a 55 minute slot with 2 ad breaks really, but that means losing the revenue of one break.

As for Lost - I've got bored of it. Haven't watched this weeks episode yet, so may try watching on C4/E4 every other week so in a two-hour bill you should get one decent episode.

It's lost half it's viewers on C4, but still doing well on E4 pulling in 1m on Wednesday nights and another 500,000 on Sundays.

I think it might be worth E4 premiering the entire second season as soon as series 1 ends early next year, with C4 screening it later in the year, considering how well it does perform on E4.
