I think CH4 are are aiming much higher then they should be with 'Lost'. It's a cult show and CH4 are trying to to make it a mainstream hit.
So what? They'll have paid a lot to air it, so why shouldn't they get the rewards (bigger audiences than they usually get means they can charge higher for the adverts).
I think CH4 are are aiming much higher then they should be with 'Lost'. It's a cult show and CH4 are trying to to make it a mainstream hit. 6 million won't tune in every week. in fact i imagine it will settle at around just 2/3.
It's a mainstream show in America, so why not here?
Mixed feelings about this. Think it might be a bit of a slow burner. Actually, so slow, that both myself and my other half fell asleep whilst watching this on Sat night.
Someone mentioned the ratings. 6.1m for the 8.30pm, peaking at 6.8m at 9.15pm and the fourth highest rated programme of the day (behind Corrie, Emmerdale and Big Brother). The second show got 5.9m.
More interesting though is the E4 ratings at 11pm of 1.5m watching episode 3. This will put a dent into next weeks ratings (predict the headlines "A quarter of viewers are lost!") but more interestingly, did E4 win the late-night ratings battle?
I hate to say I told you so...

Lost hits turbulence

Channel 4's US drama import Lost stumbled yesterday after its stellar launch last week, mislaying 1.5 million viewers - but is still shaping up to be one of the network's biggest hits of 2005.
The third episode of the drama about a group of improbably beautiful people slumming it on a tropical island after a plane crash came back down to earth, ratings-wise, after last Wednesday's record-breaking opening double bill.
Lost attracted 4.4 million viewers and a 23% audience share between 10pm and 11pm last night, according to unofficial overnights.
A week ago the first episode was watched by 6.1 million viewers from 8.30pm, while the second instalment attracted 5.9 million in the 10pm slot.
After scheduling Lost around a Big Brother "surprise eviction" last Wednesday, yesterday Channel 4 gave the show another ratings leg up, by putting a new series of reality hit Supernanny before it at 9pm.
It fails completly to acknowledge the 1.5m viewers lost last night equalled the 1.5m who watched it on E4 last week, with a further 750,000 watching it on Sunday.
The repeat airings of the first two episodes over the weekend got 1.5m viewers on C4 on Saturday, with around 600,000 on E4 on Sunday.
E4 got 1.2m viewers for last night's airing of Lost, more than were watching C4 at the time!
How many shows manage to keep their entire first night audience anyway? there will always be some who decide not to bother with a show.
I was wondering what inroads has multi channel tv made in recent years, just a few years ago a hit had to have 10 million viewers, but this has become rare, how many millions per channel constitutes a hit these days?
C4 have acted stupidly over delaying the transmission of this series, so much so that it's almost impossible to avoid spoilers.
For any real fanatics, the region 1 DVD boxset is out on 6th September, by that time C4 will only be on episode 5 and at the rate of one a week, will show the final episode on 25th January 2006 !
Mixed feelings about this. Think it might be a bit of a slow burner. Actually, so slow, that both myself and my other half fell asleep whilst watching this on Sat night.
Will stick with it though.
If you've been watching on Channel 4 then, yes, ep 3 was a little slow but the one that's just been on E4 (ep 4) was brilliant.. looks as if the opening scenes of the first episode were full of little clues about the characters that you only get once you've seen their episode (it looks like each ep focuses on the back story of a different character).
RTE is about three months ahead of channel 4, and in the most recent episode there was a nice little in joke. Charlie visited a rich girl's house in a flashback scene. When he asked her where her father was, she said he was away buying a paper company in Slough!
