No matter what, 35 years of doing - essentially - the same job on television is a great achievement.
I know we are not all fans, but she must be doing something right!
Lorraine looks a lot different now compared to then, but she still sounds exactly the same. Like a chatty neighbor.
And just how many incarnations has the Lorraine show had in 35 years?? Starting way back as the Glasgow based correspondent for TV-am, up until now, I can count around 17 theme and set changes and tweaks.
She’s neck and neck with Oprah in terms of years on telly!
Top of the Morning (1993)
Quarter to Nine (1994)
Nine O'Clock Live (1994-?)
Lorraine Live (1998-2000)
LK Today (2000 - 2008)
GMTV with Lorraine (2008-10)
Lorraine (2010 - present)
Technical question: why did Piers need to change his earpiece this morning when he left the main GMB studio and crossed the threshold into Lorraine’s studio?
Different galleries or frequencies? (Apologies for my laymen’s terms).
Exactly that I would imagine. Easy enough for both galleries to have a radio mic receiver tuned to his mic, but two galleries into one ear piece has plenty of cock up potential during the changeover.
In the analogue world, you can't have more than one transmitter feeding a receiver. With a radio mic you can have as many receivers as you want, and switch between them depending on which is the best option. With an earpiece, you can only listen to one transmitter at a time. If you have multiple transmitters on the same frequency they'll interfere with each other and you'll randomly hear nothing, one, the other, or hideous noises which make you want to rip the thing out.
Each of the studios at TVC will probably have it's own fairly low powered transmitters, and when moving to a different studio you'll go out of range and only hear bits of what being transmitted.
