Lorraine!?

How come Lorraine Kelly's show is named after her but she rarely seems to be presenting it!? (April 2011)

I don't tune in to Lorraine regularly, but everytime I have it seems that someone else is presenting it! I think Lorraine has presented it one time that I've watched the show. Does anybody know how many times she presents her own show!?

Lorraine presents Monday - Thursday on a normal week, with a guest presenter on a Friday. Not sure what the policy is in holidays, but I would guess she'd be off and a guest presenter would front the entire thing. Back in the days of GMTV, there was no Friday show - GMTV continued to 9:25, meaning she got the day off. However, as Daybreak don't have the same procedure, Lorraine has a Friday show, yet Lorraine still gets that day off. If she has these school holidays off, which I guess she would, it's as Lorraine used to take a break over the Summer and Christmas (?), yet I don't think that happens now either.

Today Kate Garraway is standing in for her.

It could be worse, if it was an American programme you'd get a big voice over:

'The Lorraine Show, starring Lorraine Kelly. with Lorraine today are x and x and x. And now here's the star of our show, Lorraine!'

And then a lower-key voice coming in saying: 'filling for Lorraine today is Kate Garraway'

why is it an issue if you don't watch it much Confused

she's a working mum, she's entitled to holidays to be with her kids just like any mother is, if she owned a hair salon called Lorraines nobody would comment if she wasn't in there cutting hair every day

IT WAS ONLY A QUESTION!

I think Kate Garraway has become a regular stand in now, I haven't seen any guest presenters for quite a while on Fridays.

Does seem now Kate has the relief gig permanently to soften the blow of losing GMTV. I guess thought the truth is Lorraine viewers are more likely to tune in to Lorraine with Kate Garraway than if they replaced it on her off days with a show named "Garraway" or something.

I do suspect though if Lorraine is off for six weeks or so in the summer they may introduce a new brand for that period.

Lorraine is on holiday right now, according to Kate's twitter account.
I ask myself the same. Even though she is a working mother and has another responsibilities, she has also a TV-show with her name. And that's a big deal of responsibility, too. Perhaps the show shouldn't be named Lorraine. And yes - Kate does a terrific job here!

(I like her a lot, though)

What people are forgetting is that Lorraine's show only used to be on 4 days a week and during term time. If she went on holiday there were never guest presenters either, GMTV was simply extended. Its just that now Kate does Fridays, school holidays and whenever else Lorraine is off, its becoming more obvious how much time Lorraine actually gets off, something we didn't really realise before.

Having Kate does give it a bit of consistency, but perhaps they could benefit from renaming it when Lorraine isn't on even if its as basic as "Daybreak with Kate".

The flip side to that and perhaps ITV's thinking is that Lorraine is very popular and gets high ratings for her slot. They could compromise that by changing the name, but Kate is also very popular with the audience and so if she is on instead, noone will mind.

What on earth are you talking about?

She has her name in the title because she's incredibly popular with her audience. This is a decision that ITV will have taken, because they know she's the star of the show.

Being the star also gives her significant leverage to take days off, have extended holidays - and probably have a jolly nice dressing room.

She's not beholden to ITV - they are beholden to her.

That's why she can take days off and still have her name in the title.

She doesn't owe anyone anything, except to produce the goods when she's in the studio - which she does.

Lorraine is not just a show it's a brand. So ITV are bound to keep it on air in the holidays.
