Only 15 minutes in but Charlene is doing a great job, I’m really impressed
Overall, a more intelligent panel and sensible programme today.
I think it proves that you can even have a ‘silly panel’ with a decent anchor and the programme is totally different! Had we had Nadia anchoring with Brenda, Janet and Stacey- it would have been chaos.
Charlene White is quite an unusual anchor choice, IMO. I haven’t seen her outside of anything other than a fixed news format.
I think Charlene will be good on LW and actually if Kate hadn’t returned to Good Morning Britain for the summer, I’d have liked to see Charlene guest host on GMB.
I think she would be good on GMB, I’ve got a feeling that she would be quite good at debates. I could imagine her clashing with piers Morgan if they were on together though.
So did Ranvir. As i keep saying, it is good to have journalists leading LW, including Kaye and Christine. The debates come across a little more credible and the programme doesn't feel as trashy.

Christine isn't a journalist.
Not having a journalism background doesn't means someone is any less of a presenter. Ben Shephard for example doesn't have a journalism background and yet he's hosted both GMTV and GMB.
As I said here before: Despite its often gossipy light topics, the lead presenter needs to be from a broadcast journalism background or be a very experienced live presenter, who can conduct debates and steer discussions. This was missing last week with Nadia leading.
Kaye, Ranvir and Christine are the best at this, and I'm sure Charlene will be good too.

That was the main gripe Eamonn had with Anthea Turner though, wasn’t it? That she didn’t have any professional journalistic experience.

If I'm not mistaken, both Andrea and Ruth are journalists as well. Ruth presented regional news for some years. And Andrea certainly trained/studied journalism, although has worked in other strands beyond that.
Our Scottish viewers will - of course - remember Kaye from her days on Scotland Today, Scotland's Debate and Scottish Women/100 Women. She was one of the first anchors on the scene of the Lockerbie disaster. And hosted political and election programming for a number of years. I guess she was regarded as the STV equivalent of BBC Scotland's Kirsty Wark for a while.
Fully agree with Loose Women being far more watchable when there is sufficient blending on the panel. The hard journalism skills of Kaye, Jane, Janet and even Gloria does add a dimension of control which I think is necessary. Of course, all of the above can turn-on the fluff as and when.
Coming to Charlene, I've only just watched (on YT) her segments from yesterday's show. I have to say, I thought she was rather excellent and even - for me anyway - quite better than some of the longer-serving anchors on said show!
