A couple of simple fixes I would make to the LW set. I would axe the logo and full-screen paint splotch graphic/logo. Instead I would use a pre-recorded "live" beauty shot of London skyline on the big screen.

Here's one big cultural difference between the US and the UK - we don't like being told things are coming from London unless there is a clear reason for it. Even subtly. There is a big divide between the north and south of the UK, and even between the south and London.

While the US may like a big "live" shot of New York, in the UK a "live" shot of London would likely result in many people complaining about London bias or even switching off.

The thing is...the programme comes from London, so it makes sense to have the screen displaying London as a virtual backdrop. People complain about programmes being too 'London-centric', but if there is no good reason for a broadcaster to move the production of the show then they stay in London, and why should they not show the fact that they come from London? If people want shows to come form elsewhere then elsewhere should be made a worthwhile place to produce programmes. News at Ten (the REAL News at Ten) used the bongs on Big Ben, so it was completely appropriate for them to have a London skyline after all, London is a)the capital of the UK and b)the city where the programme is both produced and broadcaster from.

(Although I don't think a London backdrop is right for LW)

Do most viewers of the programme care if it comes from London, Manchester, Glasgow or some bloke's shed in the middle of the Welsh mountains?

If not, then why should the programme make a song and dance about being in London, if it's of no relevance, especially bearing in mind the amount of complaints viewers in Manchester, Glasgow and the Welsh mountains make about every TV programme being made in London, and how every minor story in London becomes 'national' news, when even bigger stories from around the country are ignored.

Some programmes suit a London background - Andrew Marr, for example. I can even see the argument for the big news programmes, but for a chat show, which could just as easily be filmed in Slough, it's just rubbing it in the noses of people who live outside London. Besides, there's plenty of suitable studio space around the country for a show like Loose Women.

Rolling Eyes Right, Well if showing LDN is such a HUUUGE turn off, then an indistinct urban square or pretty urban park or other generic outdoor location to display on the screens, so it gives a sense of space and openness rather that looking like the inside of a boxcar.

A bit like Ellen deGeneres' backdrop of tulip fields or open meadows. I get your point, actually, and agree. The new LW set-up is kinda cramped. A simple image on the backdrop would go some way to open it up a bit.

Isn't the cramped look all down to the small desk? A little bit bigger (somewhere in between the old desk size and this current one) and it would look fine against the screen and set.

Yes, quite possibly so. The desk is awfully tight.

When Alan Davies came on the show earlier in the week, he mentioned how cramped it was, (albeit in a jokey way). He asked, "is this downsizing?!"

I thought they wanted a smaller cast, for viewers to get to know and enjoy watching, its taken them only four days to bring in a guest panellist. I think its great to have some younger blood and someone like Katie on the panel, but its still contradicting the motives.

Any chance of a screen capture from someone to help us compare?
