What was the reason for the lunchtime news and loose women swapping? Was it to help ratings for loose women, or to give the news a better lead in?

News used to be at 12.30. In 2003 Today with des and mel coming. in 2005 it was dropped and ITN lunchtime news at extending to hour long. 12.30- 13.30. Then in 2006 then news was moved to 1.30

The news just feels as if it's in the wrong place at 1:30pm. I suppose it was an intentional move - probably an attempt to hold the This Morning audience and boost ratings for Loose Women. But it would flow a lot better IMO to place a breather in that huge block of daytime programming with the news back at 12:30pm, then Loose Women/whatever else at 1pm.

Anyone know if the lunchtime news performs better at 1:30pm than it did at 12:30pm? I highly doubt it.

It lost it's key advantage of getting on air before the BBC News at One when it moved. I'm sure it would hold up better at 12.30pm - I think Loose Women drives a lot of viewers away, probably to BBC1 where they then stick with the news so have little incentive to switch back at 1.30pm.

I do think overall the schedule would be better with the news back at 12.30pm. I'd drop Loose Women without a question (it's had more chances than Daybreak over the last couple of years) and maybe move Alan Tirchmarsh forward to 1pm, alternating with Let's Do Lunch. The sort of shows that air at 2pm can then air in the 3pm hour too as they do when Tichmarsh isn't on air, leading into Tipping Point at 4pm.

Titchmarsh is coming to an end.

I wouldn't axe Loose Women, whatever replaced it would probably rate worse, plus there would be a high profile public outcry.

So, with the rumours several panellists are going, who do you think you should stay/go or join? My ideal panel would be:

Monday and Friday - Kaye Adams, Jane Moore, Nadia Sawalha, Coleen Nolan.
Tuesday and Thursday - Andrea McClean, Janet Street-Porter, Linda Robson, Jamelia.
Wednesday - Ruth Langsford, Myleene Klass, Sally Lindsay, Guest panellist?

Don't like the regularity, I think if all the women were strong enough, like in the past, then they wouldn't require a weekly rota. Plus this is no different to the other week, I swear nobodies been removed except you've put guest instead of Lisa who confirmed she was leaving today.

Also Denise and Carol need to come back!!

Are Claire Richards and Jo Joyner new members of the panel or just guest panelists? Maybe its the new editor trying to test some new options. But I like both of them! Not seen either on the show, just on news websites, but I'm sure they'd be good, and they are normal people, who are interesting. Rather than some of the newbies!
