Well with 4 new looks launching today, with extraordinary anticipation that has been going on for what seems like years, they were never going to have all 4 meeting everyone’s approval.
3 out of 4 ain't bad... as Meat Loaf nearly sang, but not quite.
I'm in the minority, but I prefer the new set over the old one. Sure, it may need a couple of tweaks but the old set was really bland and uninspiring IMO
I’ve actually warmed to the new set a bit now. Just the lime green behind the main host needs changing to the warmer yellow or peach, just to neutralise it a little. I like the new shape desk, much better, but some chairs like they use on GMB would look much nicer.
However not keen on the audience layout. Thought it looked tidier in the last studio when they were all seated on the floor.
All in all, just needs toning down a little for my liking but keep the bright red/ green colours as accents would be nicer.
Audience laughter seems less. I thought today's show flowed a lot better.
Also felt like the presenters were taking different specific directions from the gallery. JSP turned to stare down the camera in a momentary shot a couple of times.
If Loose Women's set ever has a fault or breaks down, then they could use Lorraine's set.
The High Table Area is perfect and plus there is a screen behind it. Front row seating can be temporarily installed and the pink 'L' where the high table is can be easily covered up with Loose Women's 'LW'.
An improvement today. The seating on the floor seemed less cluttered and the camera work was a lot better.
Also they subtly toned down the colour. Compare the green on day one to day two:
At the end of the show they made the whole wall pink and it looked so much better IMO.
I'd imagine - given the feedback - they'll experiment with a few different colours. I think white would work best and make it look more crisp and clean like the old set.
There have been occasions where programmes which share a studio have had to use elements of the wrong set. Used to happen from time to time in TC7, such as Breakfast using the Newsnight sofa because theirs was stuck behind a faulty hydraulic door that could not be opened. Or the morning when Stage 6 had a power cut and the News 24 used the Breakfast set until Millbank was up and running, Working Lunch had a hybrid set as there wasn't time to shift everything.
Plus any number of examples during scene shifters strikes in darker days - Saturday Superstore on the PlaySchool set springs to mind.
