If you changed the webcam in the window to Machester, and the plasma screen display to the North West Tonight logo, the Look North Studio could pass for the NWT studio (i cant see any other differences).

Also does anyone remember when NWT viewers had Look North for one weekend bulletin cos Manchester was having problems?

Edit: Oh yep I forgot you would have to move the plasma screen a bit into the yellow/orange part of the wall.  And obviously the yellow/orange wall makes it different.

Many BBC regional news sets are made to look like that. There are a few exceptions but generally apart from the size of the set (and window) they all looks the same.

The Spotlight studio (above) was based heavily on the programme's look before they went corporate (which was a very nice one!). I remember reading somewhere that there was quite a bit of resistance from BBC South West when they were told to go corporate - they had a very nice set, great graphics and a lovely title sequence/theme, featuring the famous Spotlight lighthouse, so I don't blame them for not wanting to replace them with the inferior (IMHO) generic stuff!

PS: Billy - do you fancy cropping that pic down a bit? It's a tad on the wide side!

In my view the Reporting Scotland studio is the most under utilised of the regional programes.

This is the small area and desk they use on ALL bulletins except the 6:30

Theyve made things worse by introducing two presenters on the 6:30 with a new desk, the studio now looks totally cramped with two newsreaders and a sports presenter round the one desk >

I preffered the old desk and one presenter format at least then it looked more spaced >

It's a shame they got rid of the blue wall - the studio looks much duller without it!

To be honest, I've never really been a fan on the corporate look for regional programmes. I can see the sense of it - ie a seamless transition between London and the regions etc - but I just think the look they've chosen isn't anywhere near good enough to be rolled out across the UK! Before they went generic, some programmes had absolutely brilliant looks - eg Spotlight, East Midlands Today - and these were sadly lost.

YTV Calendar is also like this, all bulletins except the main programme at 5.55 and also Weekend ones at 5.15 are all done from a 'broomcupboard' studio, with just a static background and a face-on camera shot all the time.
