I met the architect of the Broadcast and Media Centres at an Open House London event - apparently Tesco was a very late addition to the project, which is probably how it got away with such a big sign. From South Africa Road, it does look a bit like you're looking at a very big Tesco, though.
The units along The Network* have signage that's a bit more subtle - either decals on the glass, or illuminated signs behind the glass.
*"The Network" is the extraordinarily pretentious name for the bit of pathway that runs between BC, MC and WC.

Ah, The Network. I did not know that. Should have called it the White City Skateboard Park.

All the pathways and roads around the Media Village have pretentious names: The Network, The Trail - I don't think there's one caled The Junction ... but they're all of that ilk.

The reason wasn't so much lack of space, it was lack of flexibility.
The tx areas occupied 3 floors of the 'wedge' part of TV Centre, and other facilities were dotted around. if they wanted to add a couple more channels or a new service they had to use a room elsewhere in TV Centre or close and rebuild an exsisting area. WIth somewhere purpose-built they don't have to knock down walls everytime something changes - if the BBC wanted to bring out BBC5 and BBC6 they can just put them next to the other 4 rather than downstairs, 3rd door on the right!

Although they claimed at the time that moving services out of TVC was purely because opf the lack of space for the expansion of the business, it's hard not to smell a big rat.

It wasn't a late addition at all, I remember a vote amongst staff about 5 years ago when the building was first being planned which came up with the idea of having a Tescos on site (quite a good idea for a place with lots of shift workers).
The same vote also asked where it should be located.... unfortunately the replies that said 'Barbados' were ignored
