The forum looks set to be amazing, but I really think Cambridge should have been updated too. It will look ridiculous to alternate between glorious digital 16:9 and crappy faux 4:3-cropped-into-14:9.

Anyway, what video format is Norich going to use? Is it going to be Beta SX, or something more advanced - for example, cameras using hard disks?

How much more red could it be? And the answer is none. None more red.

(With apologies to Spinal Tap)

This is fantastic news. On the Monday just gone, Look East had a special report on St Catherine's and how it is meant to be haunted. I have gone to their current home and it is like a victorian house with VERY narrow corridors. Nice that at Breakfast, Lunch and Late News they will be presenting infront of a real window. The forum is amazing and like someone said is in the center of Norwich so access is great. Filming in true widescreen is also another great bonus. Can't wait until Monday, this move to The Forum is both well needed and deserved by the Look East team.

DVCam is the English regions current standard for Newsgathering in the field (as it is for Network News in England) Hard disks are unlikely ever to reach the mainstream, as Optical disks are now just being launched (and are much cheaper - £50 / disk instead of £2k / disk) However these aren't proven yet - and there are far more DVCam machines knocking around in feed points and live trucks...

The editing is going to be based on the Quantel ServerQ system I believe - which I believe will be using DV25 compression (as ITN use on their Quantel Clipbox server)

Suspect they will also have a GVG Kalypso mixer - as used at BBC London - I think that quite a few were bought a while back for the regions as a bulk deal - but I may be wrong.

Looking at the screenshot of the new studio - it looks like they are still using a projector for the backdrop, rather than a real view.

AIUI the studio is a real studio - i.e. no windows, though it is in a slightly awkward position access-wise?

I don't know of any changes planned for Cambridge technically - though it may be that they harmonise the studio "look" so it doesn't stick out during the 1830 sub-opt.

Yes, right as always Noggin Very Happy

The main studio is on the far left of the building, in a "bulge" which sticks out the side. There are no windows and its away from the main section of the Forum. So there is a massive screen for their window on the world.

However, the newsroom looks out into the main Forum so expect to see some sections presented from there. I have seen them through the window doing dummy runs with reporters in the newsroom doing lives against the backdrop of the library.

I have heard rumours that the "bulge" may also have been nicknamed "the wart"?

Carol Bundock and Kevin Burch have just said at the end of tonights programme that Susie and Stewart were practising the routine in the forum and that tomorrows final 6:30 broadcast will be a very special programme with many guests talking about Look East's history and may also have a report on the new studios at the Forum.

So you may get a glimpse tomorrow at 6:30pm.

The trailer I've heard on BBC 3CR, suggests there will be more news for 'our area'. It goes to mention three of the reporters and where they are based in the three counties.

I'm not sure if that means a longer opt out for the west or not...

Well the long term aim has always been to have a full programme for the West - and they did recently advertise for a presenter for the West opt!

Norwich central library (the old one was devastated by a fire several years ago).
My Grandma lives in Norwich, and she had to use a mobile library for a while because of that fire... who'd want to burn a load of old books? (Assuming it was arson)

That's very.... er..... 'interesting' but irrelevant. Do you have any comments relevant to that which we are discussing, namely this new building?

What if this new look from Look North is a BBC LDN style look. and on the BBC LDN subject, I have seen London Transport posters and leaflets with a BBC London Logo on as opposed to BBC LDN...
