The theme, titles and studios all very impressive. I was worried when I saw the chairs that it was going to be like Lookaround (NOOOOO!) but they work well. You can always trust look east.
On the downside, did anyone find the production a bit poor. About 5 times the aston came on in the wrong place, and most just cut and did not fade at the end. We heard Suzie ask loudly 'how do I prenounce this?!' during a report. Not great, but I guess they have to get used to it.
I like all these takes on the corporate stylings for the regions, I wish LDN would add more red to the set, and adopt the grey straps and other location graphics that Look East Use...
The changes are much more vast than I imagined. Truly amazing stuff. I used to rip the * out of Look East. No more, I can tell you.
Enjoy!
Lovely selection there, and I agree the grey and red do set off nicely together, as my car spray paint will agree -- you need the grey and the red to do the job properly. I will always prefer a desk though, the studio is too large for dinky chairs. One of the reporters said they have the most hi-tech up-to-date equipment in the world now -- a bit impressive.
The titles were of course in 16:9 like the rest of the programme, not sure if you switched something on your box, but here's a couple from the Cambridge opt [not 16:9] to show how easy it was to update their look.
This space would look much better filled with a desk, not another coffee table, it's just too low. As it is it looks like a dentists waiting room.
I totally agree with you! Can someone tell me what is wrong with a news desk for a news programme?!
I believe that the idea is that a newsdesk is a barrier between the presenter and the viewer, so they decided to get rid of it. I prefer a newsdesk for a news programme but that depends whether Look East really sees itself as a news programme or a news magazine programme. There is a bit of a difference.
I suppose the BBC regional programmes are a bit of both.
I did notice some problems with the widescreen. Sometimes the pictures looked a little bit squashed horizontally (esp. towards the top of the screen), but maybe this was just my digital receiver or TV. Also when they showed clips of the Sky Sports coverage of the local Nationwide footie, it appeared in widescreen but the top and bottom was still clipped off, as if it zoomed in too much on the picture or something (but LE and Sky Sports are both widescreen). A few seconds into one of them it appeared they tried to correct this but then it went 14:9 (thin black bars down the side). Maybe the Sky Sports clip wasn't actually 16:9...it appeared to be cropped from 4:3.
I do think they could easily put up the view of Norwich behind!
I do miss the old look and the old building! My opinion it is ok. I hope all the regions don't go down this line. This format is ok from London but NOT for the Eastern counties! Come on BBC East think about it!
