I got it on DVD when it was broadcast, but still looking forward to getting the proper DVD as it'll be better quality. There is something missing from the bottom left corner of the ident though, and a band across the bottom, that is slightly lighter than the black background and covers that something up. (I think this was added to get rid of a Ceefax caption that was part of the recording they took the ident from.) The missing something is a sort of cue dot that is outside of the safe area, and not seen by the viewer under the usual conditions.

And by the way, is it just me who's looking forward to having the stripey BBC2 ident on DVD as much (if not more than) the series itself?

The Ceefax caption used on BBC2 up to the switch to 888 was probably this one:

After the change to 888 this caption was used:

...so the band on LAY looks too low down to cover that up.

Yes, it's not from a VHS, it's from a broadcast quality recording, although still off-air I'd say. It is definately not a reconstruction either.

And the ident on LAY lookedtooclean to be from an off-air VHS recording anyway. The BBC probabally have broadcast quality verisons of the =2= ident in the archives anyway.

Then again, the cue dot might well be seen on a widescreen TV, so maybe the band is there to cover it for that purpose? Who knows, hehe.

Not probable, given the show was made in 4:3 (why wasn't The Two Ronnies' Sketchbook?)

That's what I mean. On a 4:3 set, you don't see the dot, as it's in the safe area. On a widescreen TV, the 4:3 safe area is visable on the left and right, so the dot would be visable too, unless the 16:9 TV crops off the safe area at the left and right. Assuming, of course, that people arn't watching in stretchy-vision

I thought the second series suffered from being in a half hour time-slot rather than ten minutes as the first series was. At times it did seem to go on a bit - rather like the first series pilot episode.
It did grow on me though as the series went on. I actually thought the final episode was the funniest with the CG inclusion of a young HRH Sir Prince Charles, and the standby Birds Of Britain programme in the middle following the swearing outburst.

Just me then who thought series 2 was a massive disappointment, apart from the obvious good period pastiche? Just wasn't very funny, especially the last epsiode which basically re-trod the last five!
