i think i found the longest breakdown ever. it was during bbc learning zone and they were showing revisewise science when suddenly there were sound problems and then they brought up the we apologlise for the loss of the programme etc.... and there no music at all for 5 mins. then a recorded annoucer apolglised and then the programme was cancelled and they showed some schools history programmes. the breakdown ran for 19 mins!

I saw a breakdown last night, it lasted for all of 3 seconds when the screen went blank and then the ident appeared. Does that count as one of the longest ever breakdowns?

I saw a breakdown yesterday but the AA were there quite quickly so I don't think it was any where near the longest ever

Although not strictly a breakdown, I suppose the record for the length of time the breakdown slide's actually been on the screen must be the ITV strike, when it was up for a number of months.
