Isn't 'LDN' London's official city code? Like New York's city code's 'NYC,' San Francisco's 'SFO,' Vancouver's 'YVR' etc. I'd think the Beeb wanna make itself sound cooler by using only letters.

As for the USA, not that many stations ID themselves by their call sign (eg. WOFL) anymore. Pretty much just the network name plus their channel number. Some stations, though, do have nice-sounding calls like WAVE, WINK, KING, etc.

So London Live is definitely on the way out? That must make it the first BBC radio station to have been called four different things over the years. I think it's a bit old hat to call it BBC London 94.9 though, considering it's also available on DAB and over the internet. They'd be better off reverting to BBC Radio London...or even GLR...

I thought exactly that - BBC London 94.9 is a poor name. However Radio London wouldn't fit in with the brand. BBC London Radio however would...

I can see the logic, and at least it's better than trying to call the radio, television and online services all the same thing, ie London Live. But yes, BBC London 94.9 and BBC London News as names just have no ring to them.

That's a problem in that when you force the same name on three services, what may sound funky on one platform, sounds daft on another. If they want my advice (they probably don't) then it's time to ditch the single brand and go back to GLR, have Newsroom London and keep BBC London Online...
