I read somewhere that there were so many alternate frequencies for some transmitters to carry that some receivers got a bit confused, so they stopped?

That may well have been the case !!

It's only been a problem since DSO started, before that of course, there were only 30 'relays' in the UK carrying DTT, and they weren't (still aren't) relays in the true sense of the word as far as DTT was concerned, because they are line fed, in exactly the same manner as the 50 main stations.

If you look at Wenvoe's relays since DSO, the same UHF allocations are used for all three PSB muxes across different sites in some cases.

Has there been the usual switchover message superimposed on BBC2 analogue yet? Keeping one eye out for it! (I've seen the one on Freeview).

PS - stand by for mentions on the main evening editions of London Tonight and BBC London News!

Any parting words from tonight's BBC Two announcer I wonder?

The messages have been popping up for a few months now - is there a different one for the final day?

Yes, on Hanington and Rowridge the captions said 'All analogue services will start to close from Midnight'
That was on DSO 2 eve, I've never caught a BBC 2 caption on any transmitter yet !

I think they usually start with white background captions and then later on they show them with black backgrounds.

Maybe a small recognition but probably not much - unfortunately it's not the last transmitter in England/the UK to be switched off...

In a word, yes.

Some are translucent, some are solid. The solid ones are used on RBL fed stations, that have different DSO dates to their feed parents, and both captions are triggered simultaneously, so obviously the solid one, masks the 'wrong' caption on the input feed.

They are all generated by special Softel boxes at the Tx sites, triggered by VBI commands from the broadcasters.

Nice, good that it's being given a little acknowledgment. It's the final switch off that needs the fanfare Very Happy

Any news on what times stage 1 and stage 2 switchovers will take place? I understand for stage 2 there is normally a delay between each channel?
