This is my favroite bid logo from that list.

I like that one as well but has that early 1990's feel where as the current one has an 1987 feel, erm..well... Wink Laughing

That's impressive given that the Birmingham 1992 logo was designed in the mid 80s! At least in that case it looked ahead of its time, unlike the new logo.

Here is my London 2012 logo. It features a stylised Big Ben surrounded by a ribbon (nod to candidate logo). The clock face is set with the time at 8:12 with the olympic rings embedded in.

Note: The square is not part of the logo.

Birmingham's is hideous - designed in the 80's or not. Manchester 2000 is probably the best.

I feel the same cant be said for Manchester's 1996 bid.

very odd that they decided to include the city council's logo in it - not sure how much resonance that had with onlookers outside of the city.

must have been around the time the council logo was introduced - i remember they went mad with it in 1989 during the centenary, it was everywhere! thankfully they seem to be using the crest more and more now instead to represent the council, and of course theres the nice birmingham brand for touristy typre things

Now that is nice. A little bland, but modern, simple and very versatile.

How inspired that was.. what's worse is that now the Australian (Federal) Government has gotten rid of all the department logos and that is almost identical to what they use now for pretty much everything.

Clever, but very dull.

I like ours better (it doesn't normally have the 'city' on the end):

Quote from BBC News Online

Quote:
Ms Jowell accepted that there had been a "storm" over the controversial new Games logo but said: "It's here to stay."

She added: "It represents 2012, but remember this is something that will serve the Olympic Games for the next five years so we want a logo which is adaptable and can be used in a variety of different contexts."

London's 2012 Olympic logo, which was launched last week, has attracted widespread criticism with 50,000 people signing an online petition calling for it to be scrapped.

For those who remember the late 70s and early 80s, it looks a bit like a broken Simon toy.

Jowell also said it wasn't the final version - the logo would stay, but the version which would be used in merchandising etc. won't be confirmed till later in the year.

Anyhow, 19 pages on and I'll link this back to TV - next Wednesday the National Lottery Jetset returns, dubbed "National Lottery Jetset 2012" with an Olympic themed twist (presumably the locations will be Olympic cities).
