Featuring the Union Flag heavily in the logo probably wouldn't be something the IOC would be that keen on. Looking at other Olympic logos it's very rare and when it is done, it's abstract (see Calgary 88 and Tokyo 64).
The colour scheme should really be that of the olympic ring colours, that's one of the best things about the previous London 2012 logo and branding, the coloured ribbons worked really well where-ever they were used

Oh grife... so let me get this straight - the logo looks crap still, and the animated version they said was the priority can't be shown because of the Pokémon effect.
