Yuck! It reminds me of Live and Kicking for some reason.
I prefered the ribbons, it looked modern, professional, and the concept was ACTUALY A CONCEPT unlike this one which looks like something you see on sex education videos from the 80's.
It's a concept.. pff. I like it and... sorry, where am I? Oh yeah, not the right place for this let me tell you!!
Anyway, the logo has only been shown, judge nothing by the logo alone! Give it time, you tell me if you still dislike it in a year's time. Couldn't get me to like Athens' logo, now think it's one of the best made so far.
I'm not surprised, it's a little kiddy and aiming somewhere nobody happens to be.. to them. It's not your usual Olympic logo and people don't like it, it's outside their safe zone and doesn't fit into their pre-defined ideal for what one is. There's no landmarks, no torches, no symbolic representations of a nation, no effin' running man. It's good because it does that and it's so new, people can't accept it yet but they will... oh yes they will.
What'd you rather, the London Eye? Please, we've had more than enough of formulaic logos in the past, time something new came along. It's a good logo but I feel it won't work fully unless we see the brand too, sure going to attract a lot of slack though from a bunch of narrow-minded jerks.
I know for some strange reasons host cities aren't allowed to use the logo they bid with, but I did think they might have somehow incorporated the river ribbon motif - either around an Olympic flame or even through the Olympic Rings (though I don't think they're allowed to do that).
Only plus side is at least it doesn't look like EastEnders!

The trouble with the ribbon, is that the River Thames element would be lost on anyone outside the UK.
That said, the new one is a lot worse. To me it looks like it's spelling out 20IR, with the '0' shaped like a stylised map of Australia.
I like this logo but a lot more don't. I'm guessing it's just initial shock as I said before of it not being something they've seen before. We haven't seen it in any other way but what we've been shown in previews, give it time. That's all I can say, give it time, with use I reckon people will see just how it can be used and where. Almost like everyone forgot these are supposed to be the youth games, remember LOCOG's bid video, hm?
