BBC and C4 seem to be sharing games footage too, well in excess of their 'allowance' under normal rules. No doubt rights holders IOC and LOCOG have allowed a dispensation for this occasion.
BBC and C4 are the rights holders - they can share the coverage in any way they see fit.
Taped it this afternoon and watched much more of it than I anticipated, principly the C4 coverage as I thought the ads meants I'd get through that quicker, but they didn't seem to take many breaks at all and they got the tone just right, though inevitably gave greater weight to the Paralympians. Watched some of the BBC coverage after and at last great to see it done as a BBC Sport production rather than BBC News, but the commentary didn't seem to capture the atmosphere as well as C4 - and they didn't seem to allow viewers to just soak it up either.
It also highlighted what a loss to the BBC Claire Balding is - she was once again the star attraction of coverage this afternoon and just superb - loved her interview with Seb Coe too in which he thanked her for being one of the few for believing in the London dream right from the beginning. A special mention for Giles Long too - he was able to quickly and accurately identify both Olympians and Paralympians from all sports throughout the afternoon and between them Krishnan and Giles just delivered the info that people needed to know, rather than the sometimes interesting but often not annecdotes the BBC can be sidelined by - though Hazel advising people to plan for their kids to be born on 23rd March (birthday of Hoy, Kenny, Farah and a couple of others) was quite funny.
