I stand by what I said before. London is the capital city of England only. It is a geographical fact

politically however it's the capital of the united kingdom

I hereby agree. Just like Paris is the capital of Australia.

London is offically recognised capital of the United Kingdom, as well as capital of England.

Just because something is "officially recognised", that doesn't mean it's an actual fact. The year 2000 was "officially
recognised" as the start of the 21st Century, despite the fact that the year 2001 was the real start of the 21st Century.

I stand by what I said before. London is the capital city of England only. It is a geographical fact

The United Kingdom is a Union of the Countries of England and Scotland, the Principality of Wales, and Northern Ireland.

The Capital of England is London.

The Capital of Scotland is Edinburgh.

The Capital of Wales is Cardiff.

The Capital of Northern Ireland is Belfast.

The Captial of the Union is London.

The geographical "fact" is that London is the biggest city within the UK, it is the home of the UK 's Government and of the UK's Monarchy - ipso facto it is the capital of the UK. A quick look through a few reference books or on the web should be all that's needed to accept this.

In the US each state has a capital city, but the capital of the United States is Washington DC. Same principle.

But geographically, England isn't separate -- only politically.

The United Kingdom is not an island either, it is many hundreds of islands. You are speaking of Great Britain, which is a geographical term for an island, often wrongly applied to mean the political entity that is the United Kingdom.

Wales didn't have a capital until 1955 -- what about before then?

Not sure how true this is, but someone said to me that the reason Britain didn't get the Olympics before was because London wasn't the host city. As good as Birmingham and Manchester would be the IOC felt that the capital should host it.
