I see ITV News have started a countdown, 2578 days to go. Laughing

How long shall we give them till they get rid of it completely..... ?

I'm sure they won't keep it there every day until the games... that's if ITVNC are still around in 2012!

If a riot of some sort didn't happen at a G8 summit, I'd question why not.

I really dont think too many Brits are gonna be interested in the G8 today. Theres always a riot outside a G8 gathering. Im just sooo happy we beat the French today.

I think serious violence where the 8 most powerful people in the world are is more important than Olympic games which aren't happening for another 7 years.

I agree it's fantastic we got the games over the French, and if I don't mind... Get it up yaez! And our food is good actually. Razz

Oh I'm not sure - after all when you hit 43, all you've got to worry about is death.

Our old optimist Joe might not make it that far!

Oh I am soooooooooo happy. Didn't think we could do it. If Chirac wants to try some British dishes I think there's a large slice of humble pie coming his way!! Wink

Think the Beeb were right to go with that show covering it today, unfortunately Telewest played up in the London region so all I taped was a blank screen!! Evil or Very Mad

Any other day it be top story - but today is a unique day in British history - and a rare occassion when a good news story tops the agenda!

I also imagine globally, if not in the UK, more people will have heard of the IOC than the G8!

As for coverage, re: ITV - they certainly didn't show the regional news within the hour long bulletin, but I switched off when the Lunchtime News ended so I don't know if it was screened. I don't think so as I caught CITV starting at 3.30pm.

Re: BBC - great we finally have an event which warrants more than a BBC News 24 simulcast. It was co-produced by BBC News and BBC Sport - with correspondants roughly split 50/50. It was well presented and Barry Davies was excellent - though the audio on the commentary wasn't the best.

Was it really neccessary though to stick a programme about war veterans on just as the tension was building?

Were there any special programmes (other than normal bulletins) earlier this evening? (I went out at half-three).

I assume we can (even at +7 years) expect to see a few new shows commissioned, or at more least regular slots on the likes of Grandstand.

Also interested to know if the BBC will set up any special networks (they had a dedicated radio station for the commonwealth games in Manchester). TV could be quite a bit different in 7 years time if analogue switchoff is complete, etc. etc.

EDIT: I see the BBC say they are pressing ahead with the planned move of sport to Manchester (although its yet to be officially signed off).

Oh, I don't know, you seem to be able to manage another twenty-five after you hit forty-three.

I've forgotton my forty-third, it was so long ago.

I've forgotten my thirty-third, and that was in January.

But that was because you invited us all to Noble's in Leith where you got yourself totally out of your brain and then bought me sixty-seven wee drams before totally denying that I was there.
