Local TV

Are you local?

The fact that CBS reality is already on freeview makes it more of a joke. Simulcasting what's already viewable on another channel.

See also various chunks of BBC One and/or BBC Two output being simulcasts of the BBC News Channel...

Yes, indeed. It's sqandering (apparently valuable) bandwidth in my view, no other broadcasters do it on that scale.

Perhaps Ofcom could perform one of their long winded audit/consultations

Anyone know what's happened to That's Lancashire? Not showing on YouView box anymore. All other channels are there though. Only this one missing.

When did it go missing ? It moved frequency back in October, when did you last run a rescan ?

My house mates have spent several minutes staring in disbelief at the output of Sheffield Live while flicking through the channels. The news is often good for a laugh for how poorly it's put together, the priority of stories and how uninformative you can actually make a news programme.

I particularly like the promo for advertising on Sheffield Live, which runs a random sequence of scenes filmed around Sheffield (largely, it seems, within 200 metres of the station studios) while a VO tells us how we can advertise on Sheffield Live over a generic jazz bed. At no point during the promo do the station's contact details appear as an on-screen caption. If it was posted in The Gallery it'd get panned, yet there it is on TV.

It updates itself every so often. Only noticed the other day. I've manually retuned and still not there.

It's on UHF Ch 40. If there's no signal present it could indicate your aerial requires replacement as the frequency is too low for its responce. Hardly worth the effort for local TV of course, however in April the main muxes at Winter Hill also move downband, so you may well need a replacement for that event anyway

Just watched half an hour's worth of Leeds TV - pretty much my quota for the year. They've have just run a piece about a dog that picks up litter on Scarborough beach. A 90 minute drive away on a good day. Oh, and a weird advertorial for Active Fitness.- with horribly distorted interview audio. To be fair it was flagged up by a 'P' product placement symbol just prior. Also worth noting a few bits with a SWNS credit - a news agency that appears to have an office in Leeds. Beyond that, the old trick of a few minutes' content shoved into a rotating playlist - and boom!, there's your 'local' box ticked.

What transmitter is Scarborough on? If they get Look North Leeds there (Emley Moor transmitter) instead of Look North Hull (Belmont), then it makes sense that it would be covered on Leeds TV, as they'd be able to pick up the channel there.

Scarborough is covered by the Oliver's Mount transmitter, which broadcasts That's TV North Yorkshire.

So why are Leeds TV even covering Scarborough? They can't even have nabbed that report from a sister station if they have a That's channel instead of a former Made one. Confused

The old fashioned commercial radio trick of covering an area larger than they actually cover to make it more attractive to advertisers.

Leeds TV is transmitted from Emley Moor at a significantly lower power than the main muxes, and in a narrow beam only towards Leeds. I just about had reception on a hotel TV just outside York (on the west side) there's not much chance of reaching Scarborough (indeed, that's why the Oliver's Mount tx exists)
