Hi, I'm Ciaran and I am a new member! Well the first thing that I would like to post is about TV Restricted Service Licence. There is a local RSL in Derry called C9TV. I think it is doing very well. Have you got a local RSL in your area? Do you think it is very good? I think it is a brilliant idea for the ITC to do such a thing. What do you think?
I think they are a good idea. I stay in Edinburgh and we had, funnily enough, Edinburgh TV. It launched about 1999/2000. Then i heard it had been taken over by a company called Local TV (i think) who must run a few other local TV stations. After the take over it became a text based service with news and sport. They also promoted a new service starting soon called Local Edinburgh. That was the last I heard of it. I've not been able to recive it for about a year, so I guess the service stopped.
Portsmouth TV nearly went under last year, infact they were on South Today the other day after sacking seven employees unfairly. It's all done on the cheap now not as good as when it started but clearly they couldnt afford to continue. Southampton TV the sister station is mildly better.
Solent TV which started on the Isle of Wight last year (replacing the first RSL, TV12) is the first not for profit station, things look more professional but overall the programming on all three stations is much the same.
There is also an RSL in Manchester called Channel M, where I am in Warrington you can get an extremely poor reception, it is just consistant of Sky News and music, but from what I have seen on their website their output looks rather good for a channel which has a shoestring budget.
I thought the Local Channel on cable was a good idea and I think it still is, but it is now something called BVTV and shows complete rubbish, with a bit of Buy NTL thrown in too.

MyTV Network, the company that runs Southampton TV and Portsmouth TV, also holds the RSL for the Bournemouth area, which they are apparently currently negotiating transmission sites with the ITC for. Hopefully they won't go out of business before the channel starts!
