From what I have heard it is JUST the news operation moving to ITN.
The rest of the company (Transmission, Factuals, ISN, and the library) will be staying under the LNN banner.
In terms of the weather.. it would make sense for that to move to ITN too - but because its sponsored, it can't be contained in the main bulletin. It has to standalone!
I understood that the news operation is the only thing moving to the ITN building as you say, but that LNN as a company is being disbanded and re-created as ITV Transmission, or Broadcast or some other title, and will be managed by the either the Network Centre or the merged ITV company.
Not sure what that means for LNN staff though - don't think thats been decided yet, some steering group has been set up to decide that.

Yes thats pretty much what I thought was happening too
Also, isn't the london tonight gallery capable of 16:9
Seeing that the national and London weather forecasts come from the London Tonight studio, I would of thought so, which makes me think, why is LT still in 4:3?
There is no real diffrence between a 16:9 gallery and a 4:3 one (except perhaps the shape of the wipes on the vision mixing desk) . The output of the studio is only dependant on what the camera and other devices output.
Actually the biggest difference is normally in the monitor stack... If you can't make the monitors show the right shape pictures it is quite difficult to work in the gallery - though still possible of course. (You just don't know quite what you are looking at.)
Most, if not all, digital gallery kit, like vision mixers, DVEs etc. are switchable between 16:9 and 4:3 operation - but in reality this just means that circle wipes, and DVE rotational effects work slightly differently. The actual electronics of 16:9 and 4:3 kit is pretty much identical - because in galleries the pictures are actually the same "shape" in pixel/sample terms. (702x576 within a 720x576 frame for both 4:3 and 16:9 images - it is just the sample/pixels that change shape!)
The major limiting factor is, of course, the cameras. These are the only major bits of kit that routinely come in both fixed aspect ratio, and switchable aspect ratio form.

Yes, but most monitors are easily switched either in the menu or with a button/switch. If not tinkering with the geometry settings inside can change it over
London Tonight takes best news award
London News Network’s (LNN) London Tonight won best news programme at the Royal Television Society’s London awards last night (Monday), just days after new owners ITN said they would radically revamp it.
The latest rumour doing the rounds is that ITN presenters will be expected to present on ITV London.
You have to admit... there's not much point in employing someone like Anna Maria Ashe to present the two five minute news bulletins a day on a weeked when a News Channel bod could do it in between hour wheels.
And if the Morning news finishes at 6am... why can't owen read the London opt half an hour later uptil 8.10? Didn't he used to do it when paul green was off anyway?
Sure, Alastair and lucy will stay presenting the main show, but they could also fill in on News Channel during the afternoon. Afterall... what exactly do regional news presenters DO all day?
It's not like they have to prepare for high profile interviews... they're lucky if they get one... and usually with a reporter... and all the Qs are scripted.
It wouldn't suprise me if Alastair Stewart made a bit of a comeback as regular presenter on ITV News after the move to ITN. He is a firm favourite and friend of David Mannion who now heads up ITV NEWS. I'd like to see Anna Maria Ashe present on the News Channel. Any thoughts?

Yeah, I'd have to say the current crop on LT are getting pretty stale. They're a long serving bunch and have mostly been there since it started. I'm not sure about Anna presenting rolling news, I think she'd be better off moving away from news into more mainstream programming (I think she did 'Dream Ticket' after Mel Sykes left it). IMO the likes of Lucy Alexander and Paul Green are a tad boring.

They write their links, research the background for stories etc, a lot of preperation goes towards a news programme.
News presenters are journalists, not just autocue readers as you seem to think they are

Yes, these were the London RTS awards, so basically it was LDN up against LNN. LDN had 3 of their 4 awards on display (minus one that went missing) on their programme on Tuesday night.
Not sure how London Tonight has won best programme for the last couple of years, it really is piss poor - even Alistair Stewart said during last years awards that Emily and LDN should have won!
London Tonight is to have a big shake up when ITN take over - it's long over due for an editorial tightening
I agree whole heartedly. London Tonight used to be the most fantastic regional news programme on tv. Under the editorial eye of Mark Sharman (founding editor) and when it was 60 mins long, LT was just unmissable tv. When it was chopped to 30mins and transmiited at 6.25 it was still in good shape, but when Sharman left, things began to change. IIRC SImon Bucks (the then ITN Lunchtime News editor moved over and replaced him, got rid of Fiona Foster and began changing the format, which included the titles, music and so on. The original LT music was magnificent!
Poor old Alastair has been through his fair share of co-presenters including Fiona Foster, Mary Nightingale, Natasha Kaplinksy, Lucy Alexander, Anna Maria Ashe and a few others. If there is a presenter shape up ahead, Lucy should go! She is just dreadful and doesn't suit the programme at all. Anna Maria Ashe should remain as she has the most experience at London News having been with LNN since its inception She is also a damn good presenter. Alastair should give it up - he is far too heavyweight for London Tonight and would be better suited back in the saddle on ITV News.
