Its reality TV. I have found this which tells it like it is:
“Five gay men, out to make over the world — one straight guy at a time.
They are the Fab Five: an elite team of gay men dedicated to extolling the simple virtues of style, taste and class. Each week their mission is to transform a style-deficient and culture-deprived straight man from drab to fab in each of their respective categories: fashion, food & wine, interior design, grooming and culture. ”
Living have picked up both the US series and also bought the rights to make a UK version.
I think that the UK "Fab Five" have already been chosen - and it may well be Living's most expensive UK commission to date.
The show has proved a big hit in the US - moving from the US Bravo network to NBC I believe. (Think US Bravo is owned by NBC - and I don't know if the same shows aired on both networks, or if it was reworked for NBC?)
Queer eye should also be coming to Ftn too as before the Jay Leno episode with the guys on the announcer said something about queer eye coming here soon on Ftn etc etc. I think i have read on the net too about it being on Living first then Ftn, so thats good for freeview people then.

Makes sense - Ftn and Living are both Flextech channels.

Sorry, but that sounds awful and tacky to me.
Also potentially rather offensive (i.e. implying that all straight men don't have any style)

Bravo is owned by NBC, you're right, noggin. As far as I can tell, the programmes on Bravo do not change for NBC. Queer Eye airs on Thursdays in primetime (9pm eastern, I think) - NBC's "must-see" slot.
Personally, I think the show is pretty... tedious. I got half way through one and got so annoyed I walked out of the room, came back and by the time they'd got to the bit where the guy took his girlfriend out, it seemed slightly more tolerable, but still pretty cringeworthy.
Each of the guys does a different job (look out for the fashion guy, who's just signed a contract to work in Hollywood, and is by far and away the most popular). No idea why he's a fashion guy, he dresses like a prostitute.
The cooking and interior design men are boring and not worth watching.
The men themselves are usually homophobic, just to make sure the southern viewers aren't feeling totally confused. One scene with the skincare/grooming guy involves Mr Straight getting a fake spray-on tan. Straight guy and gay guy standing next to each other, half naked, in a tanning room. Straight guy is very rude, insists strongly that gay guy just does not look at him half naked, and moves away to prevent the two coming into contact with each other. Gay guy looks slightly baffled and upset.
ABC's new "It's All Relative" gay-light-entertainment-programme should be making its way over to the UK soon too.
NBC owns Bravo. "Queer Eye" originally aired in Bravo and became a surprist hit. NBC first aired edited 30-minute version first as a "test", and then decided to broadcast the full version for 2 weeks in a row during "ER" slot.
