I thought news 24's commentary (what I saw of it) was ok.
Sky's coverage was very good - what I don't quite understand is why all the broadcasters have been based at one end of the road.
I'd have thought they'd had tried to get cameras at the other end (nearest the school) and transmit the pictures back to the sat-truck from there, so they could follow the children through.
Presumably the end of the road is just as safe as the other end, its just the bit in the middle that isn't?
Someone else may be able to confirm, but I don't think ITN do *any* live broadcasts at all now?

I would have thought that the police will have made the broadcasters stay in one place. Often (especially in Belfast) it is only safe to be in one place all together or the police/authorities decide that is where everyone should be.

Hmmm. Just looking at that pic from sky and it just stuck me how nice those astons and graphcs that they are currently using are. Yes I know because of the hell thats been going on at sky centre everything seems to be disproportioned ever since they moved into the temp studio, but when viewed as a picture (above) they really don't look to bad.
(The Countdown Music is really good as well, very dramatic, fits the channel perfectly!)
A colleague was there the other day, says the trucks are quite impressive, most he's ever seen!
There are two ways they can be done, I know BBC NI provided N24 with the feeds, they had 1 camera static at the bottom, 1 on a crane and the other via remote camera with handheld Microwave link walking up (the things that look like a plate on a stick), this is also how the reports from the school were sent to BBC OB truck, then probably from BBC NI OB truck via Microwave to transmitter and back to Broadcasting House for transmission/whatever.
Sky do something similar but bounce signal up to satellite.
It better be over by Friday, otherwise I'll probably end up there, even if it is 15 minutes from my house!

I feel that I must stand up to your criticism of ITN, which I maintain is the best news channel on TV. ITN don't do many live reports as they aren't really a 'rolling' news channel, they are basically news bulletins every half hour, whereas Sky and News 24 (when they can be bothered) spend more time on individual stories due to their looser structure. ITN is there to provide a full news bulletin at any time, not to carry live, and sometimes lengthy, reports which force Sky and News 24 to overrun. Oh, I know what I mean anyway.
And I'd rather watch Lovely Leyla than some school in Ireland any time.
