i presume she was chosen for her editorial background. the rights and wrongs of climate change are not as cut and dried as people dying in africa. therefore the bbc is merely covering the fact there has been a series of concerts and explaining the motivation behind them.
she's carried it off quite well, very likable presenter - unlike kaplinsky who is patronising.
would be interesting to know the demographic breakdown of who watched today. if its your average corrie/eastenders fan who has an aversion to thinking - then the explanations about climate change sandwiched between the music would have made the whole event worthwhile, drip feeding them information they might not otherwise have known.

I wonder how Kate Silverton got in on the act as presenter on BBC ONE for the non UK segment of Live Earth? It seems a little odd.... could they have not found a music presenter to do it?

Jonathan Ross doesn't give a crap does he?
I love the way they cut straight out as soon as Chris Rock said that. As much as I love Chris Rock, its bound to happen he's gonna say sommat like that and to take a chance of putting him live on air at that time it's the BBC's fault for airing it even if Ross's cover up went along the lines of we are only transmitting what has been provided by the acts and we ask them to think of the varied range of audience at that time of day.
You would think it would be a logical step to move on but no, lets bring Chris Rock into the studio only for him to use that N word!
and this time no apology at all apart from Ricky Gervais doing his schoolboy laugh because somebody said a rude word.
Don't get me wrong, I love Chris Rock but to allow him to be transmitted live via the stage and in the studio was a big editorial mistake.

Chris Rock says "mudderfudder", cut to the studio with Johnathon Ross putting his earpiece in and laughing 'Ha, whats he done?'.

I'm really surprised how much of a flop it was in ratings terms
I know we all thought many people wouldn't be interested but usually people will watch any old rubbish if it is a big BBC1 event (see how Children in Need gets more viewers every year despite it being critcised on here)
An average of 2.7m isn't very good, it looks like most people were watching Wimbledon instead

It should have been shown on ITV2 at the least. I don't think the BBC did themselves any favours showing it all day to be honest.

Live Earth
BOMBED
in ratings everywhere except the internet streaming:
http://www.reuters.com/article/entertainmentNews/idUSN0930495920070710
NBC (USA) - 2.7million [viewers were more interested in watching Monsters Inc on ABC ]
)
BBC One (UK) - 3.1million
Pro Sieben (Germany) - 1 million
" Online, Live Earth was more successful (9 million hits) then the previous best for an online entertainment event (Live 8, 2.9 million)"
I guess viewers knew it was a gimmick
The estimate of 2 billion can eat it's heart out...

The BBC might say its still good for Saturday night audiences but that is a failure for Al Gore I think.
