Does anyone know when the Live 8 concert coverage will start and finish on the BBC? Which channel will the Wimbledon Ladies' Final be on? Will there be BBC News updates throughout the Live 8 coverage if it goes on for a substantial part of the day?
I can't remember Live Aid in 1985, what happened then? When did the coverage begin/end?

ISTR BBC 2 11:50hrs until about 21:00 hrs, then BBC 1 from 21:00 hrs until the small hours. In those days Radio 1 shared Radio 2's FM transmitters, they had the network to themselves from 12:00hrs until 00:00. From that point I think they then transferred over to Radio 3 FM. R3 would normally close down at 00:00 during the 80s.

There were short Radio 1 Newsbeat updates during the afternoon presented by Frank Partridge from the Wembley studio and simulcast on BBC 2/R1. The BBC were not obsessed with TV News updates as they are today, so there were none of those.

The weather forecast for the coming week is not good and I am expecting there to be a backlog of Wimbledon matches come Saturday which could put an extreme squeeze on airtime on Saturday.

Thankfully the interactive streams will be available.

I'm looking forward to it. Very Happy

Fingers crossed for Status Quo to appear...

On July 13th 1985, 16 hours of Live Aid was broadcast on the BBC. It finally finished at 4:10am in the early hours of Sunday morning and BBC1 closed down as usual with the COW spinning away to the national anthem.

I'd love to see more archived footage of the COW and related presentation circa Live Aid.

Bet that was a culture shock for late night R3 listeners!
