'Live 8' is a daft name to me.

I thought it was quite clever. Phonetically it is very close to Live Aid, and also ties in nicely with the G8 summit, the leaders of the nations attending are who the concert is aimed at...

I think it would have been more clever to use a title that sounds nothing like Live Aid, using a simular name instantly means people will compare this even with Live Aid two decades ago.

Anyway...
I think 'Live 8' is a good name actually, and in no way 'daft' as suggested. Something such as 'Live Aid 2' would not have worked as Bob Geldof has stressed that the focus of these concerts is not to aid the people, but to raise awareness, particularly to the world leaders for the G 8 summit (coincidentally held in the same month) to plead to ease third-world debt.

Or not so coincidental, as the case may be!

Well it is coincidence; both dates were set in stone.

and to the poster above, that font is hardly readable with that nasty colour youve used. if yo're going to be different to everybody else, at least be tasteful Rolling Eyes

Live 8 'patronising' to Africans

Indeed. I think this will be a good event, it does seem strange that the line-up involved does not feature such African stars. I don't think myself that this will particularly spoil the event, but it does seem slightly perplexing.

Live 8 is finally here, and what an event this could potentially become - I like the idea of Ross presenting from an overhead pod in Hyde Park, so everything will be happening behind him.

I really hope that the BBC coverage will provide link-ups to Edinburgh and to the other concerts in Johannesburg, Paris etc, to give us an insight into the events elsewhere, but I suppose Geldof will talk on stage by satellite to the other gigs.

In theory my branch of WHSmith shall be joining in the event by having radio one playing in the afternoon. That's if I can get reception of course.

I think we will only know its true significance several years from now. I truly hope this is the last live aid because if we are here again 20 years from now we will have failed.

Well, the coverage started on BBC Two at 1pm and it's very good so far. They've had guests such as U2, Elton John and Bob Geldof. The BBC have Jonathan Ross presenting in the special pod, Fern Cotton doing the backstage business, and Jo Whiley doing all the interviews in the little garden.

Most of the conversation is about the G8 of course, rather than the bands but the concert should be starting in 20 minutes or so.

Yes, they're showing highlights from Berlin, Jo'burg and Tokyo at frequent points, a good feature. Should be good coverage in little under 10 minutes - can't wait!

Who is t present tonights 'Live 8 U.S'? In the listings it says Will Smith but Graham Norton seems to be more likely (Smith may be doing the American feed I suppose).
